I have never liked biographies; when you are nobody, in the way this world sees you, i.e. unknown, I have always had the disagreeable impression that I am exposing the very depth of my inner self - which concerns nobody else - and that later on the honesty of saying what I am today would become a simple anecdote and only serve as a few obscure scribbles ...
I was born on 29th June 1952 in a little village of the great Wallonnie bordering nearby Germany, the Ardennes and our large French neighbour.
That day, as luck of the calendar would have it, was a Sunday and two saints blessed my coming into this world, St. Peter the builder and St. Paul the chronicler.
My childhood passed gently and silently by with a non-talkative father and a mother seen briefly as she ran round between hours of cleaning work and two brothers already too old for me.
Papa listened to Caruso, my mother Tino Rossi and the radio played everything it could find in Rock and Roll across the Atlantic.
And me? I listened to this mixture of music without suspecting that I would be influenced by it forever.
The years passed.
1964 I listen to the Beatles
1965 I learn to sing the entire repertoire of Otis Redding right up to his last song in 1967.
1969 I handle my first guitar knowing 3 chords.
1972 I learn the Beatles White Album, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelin, as well as can be expected ...
1974 I want to play like Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. I give it a go ...
1975 I earn my living as a guitarist at local dances, I learn humility and the pale light of dawn.
1982 I write my first song in French and go on the hunt for record companies.
1986 I do a tour supporting well known and uninteresting people.
1995 I take to the road again and one after another do the late bars, night clubs, tourist bars, the stage and the rest ...
2000 I hang up my guitar and plunge into the world of others' lives, the other side ... factories, building sites, les casse- croûtes au gros rouge et la philosophie à deux balles (in French in the text).
2006 I have at last understood that I couldn't be anything other than I am : a musician
