I'm a freelancing drummer and percussionist in Brooklyn, NY. Currently I play with Kagero, an excellent fusion of rock, folk and gypsy with Balkan and Eastern influences ( go to KAGERO OFFICIAL WEBSITE
for more details ) I love music in all forms and I try to be open to a constantly changing environment.
My dream is to be on the big stage, although i might settle for a smaller one (the size DOES matter). But ultimately its most important to me that I play some great music, drum some mean drums, and enjoy my life.
I started playing drums when I was 10. Being the son of a rock drummer Georgi Markov Sr, I was often backstage on concerts of the popular rock band Shturcite (The Crickets) and had the chance to meet a lot of the famous musicians and artists in my country Bulgaria. I grew up to love the blues, rock, fusion, pop rock, soul, jazz and classical musics. In my childhood i was heavily influenced by bands such as Mahavishnu Orchestra, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Doors, Rolling Stones, Cream, Deep Purple; artists like Joe Cocker, Tina Turner, Peter Gabriel and many more.
At the age of 18 I was already gigging regularly around the city of Sofia, mostly at "The Swing" (a jazz oriented club in Sofia, Bulgaria) with a band called "Dirty Purchase" run by the owner of the club; touring and recording with a hard-rock band called "Monolith"; and expanding horizons with a much younger band, which is currently called N.I.E.
I came to the USA in 2001 at the age of 19. I lived in the great Midwest, where i played with "The Jerry Forney Blues Band". I played with them for year and a half exploring the rhythm&blues, and ultimately recording "Poor Boy Blues" in July 2003.
Shortly after I enrolled at the Jazz Program at the University of Kansas (KU) in Lawrence, KS (why Kansas?) and played in their top Big Band and Combo for 2 years. I had the pleasure of meeting, even playing on one occasion with drummer legend Peter Erskine.
I moved to New York City in Aug 2006. I've played with Brian Mitchell Trio, Amie Amis, and right now I'm playing in Kagero.
