Funky Blue Hat is the color of the sky…
Established with teenage pride in 2003, and named after an old salvation army baseball cap, light blue and dirty with the adjustable piece.
It’s made of 4 MC’s, & 1 DJ,
plus a handful of live musicians, suggesting a co-op of sorts.
Within a funky workshop, ideas began to flow at lunch,
we smashed crews and ain’t stopped since cafeteria days. Truth.
Now in Brooklyn, on a stoop, I’ma try and sum up what’s off the charts.
It’s 5 true soldiers, all country boys that make art…
so,
Evan J Ehmann (Prospek)
Graduated with good marks from The Institute of Audio Research.
Not that he needed them, kid got a trigger finger:
Folk/Rock/Hip-Hop freedom gangster trouble-shooter milkshakes
have never tasted better.
Especially through those keys he keeps under lock and key in Bushwick.
Born leader, born beats, born rhymes.
Nick J Weymouth (Apparatus)
Bustin’ his ass like a real working man in the Northeast,
My friend Appa mixes New England hearts with a rock hard feel
like fresh Appa-cider w/ vodka and smokers appeal.
You know what I’m talking about when you live in VT and really do wear Timberland boots and fur coats.
Plus his words touch real people, not commercial ones.
Greg Sierman (Kruzchef)
Boston is too small for the Scottish, therefore,
the anger and passion and interest and craftsmanship
reflected in chef’s beats and sound projects gives you that straight
mysticism that destroys the notion of college-kid Boston spit wads and
opens up doors into the unknown. His digital media is sick too,
keep spinnin’.
Ira A Powsner (Kidd Self)
He’s a movie person.
French fries with mayo.
He’s a river fish, but they think he’s a mako.
Where would the kid be without his friends? Probably writing poetry, which is not as badass as what he does best.
Greg Brown and 2Pac in the tape deck. Camel Lights and chicken scratch notebooks after coffee.
Road warrior for life.
Ryan T. Sadwith (Riots)
20 thousand leagues under a scalp, where the wild things are, in Mozambique,
is probably where you will find the most elastic kid I know, complete with the grace to get deep over seas and keep a foot in your American mudroom. Prankster in the coolest way (never letting you know youv’e been kutchered) and life smiles for the weak, Riots
makes letters join words to beat the hype. Attention to detail like an artist gone mad, painting his pictures to smash your preconceptions. Not only is he a teacher, he’s got curiosity that brings yours to life and hits a couple wet cats along the way, who didn’t hear the motor running. Or the Miles Davis.
Poets are troublemakers
in a political way,
Rioters
