| About freshpack |
|
FreshPack was conceived sometime in 2002, and born in February of 2006. Mike Whitty (rouge bass player/singer songwriter formerly with The Thompson Brother's Band) and Carissa Lee Broadwater (closet undeveloped singer/songwriter) made an impromptu appearance at Daniel Tashian's infamous 12 @ 12th, a Nashvile scenester's writer's night. FreshPack performed a poigniant song Whitty had written a half an hour before over pints with Broadwater at Sherlock Holmes Pub. Intended as just another stupid drunken Whittystunt. Freshpack did not expect, (or maybe deserve) the standing ovation they received. The song lasted a whopping 1 minute and 12 seconds, and Freshpack walked (and/or stumbled) offstage. Carissa Lee Broadwater and Mike Whitty would not appear onstage together until 4 years later, but in a much more serious manner (usually). During FreshPack's hiatus, Whitty moved to New York City, and Broadwater started playing out in Nashville. She built a reputation as an extremely gifted no-nonsense singer/songwriter. Whitty caught one of these performances, and was shocked by the leaps and bounds made by his 1 minute and 12 second bandmate. "I was captured by Carissa's commanding, yet vulnerable stage presence. Her songs were real, and she sang them as hard as she lived them." The duo asked Jed Smith to play drums, and the melodic, Casey Pollock formerly of Reckless Kelly to smooth out and cement the band's sound on guitar. With the experienced lineup, FreshPack was finally born.
