It took Mike Allan 10 years to release his debut album, The Let Go Road - a compilation of roughs, demos and recordings which grew up with him, from the age of 11, through school & college, emerging on his 21st birthday at his album launch party in 2005.
Once described by The Bean Scene as "Stevie Nicks doing Ryan Adams", Mike's distinctive voice draws the listener in and every song is sung with conviction.
Recorded, Engineered & Mastered by Dawn of the Replicants' Dave Little, "The Let Go Road" delivers strong hooks and textured harmonies, richened by beautiful vocal support from Rachel Duff & Lizi Trafford, with Jamie Smith on Piano giving magic to If I Loved You.
Mike's new album was released on 12th October. Produced by Andrew Taylor of Dropkick, "For What You Did" is richened with catchy guitar hooks and bright, sunny harmonies. A retro alt-country affair. You can buy it for £6.00 (including P&P) from Mike's website. It is also available from all good download sites including iTunes.
Mike has most recently played with the legendary Frank Usher & Queen of the Edinburgh acoustic scene, Lynsey Hutchinson.
New Single, "The Ghost Of My Old Man" will be released soon to coincide with the new film from JIP/Silenti Films entitled "The Slaughterhouse". (www.welcometotheslaughterhouse.com)

we've played a lot of different takes on dance music over the months, but for the last one we wanted to book straight up party DJs that we knew would have the place jumping. we've been thinking about it a long time and done just that-
* ZOMBIE DISCO SQUAD (Get Rude, London) * PRO-VINYLIST-KARIM (Rub-A-Dub, Glasgow) * JOHN M. J. FARRUGIA (Big Toes HiFi, Edinburgh)
Expect Baltimore Club, Ballie Funk, Hip-Hop, Bassline, Dancehall, Booty Bass, Electro Crunk, Ghetto Gutter House and other made up genres; and if all this isn't enough we're rolling in the Big Toes, 15k, badboy sound system for the occasion. On the first Saturday of each month NEW BREED aims to provide a platform for the most interesting neo-pop emerging from the underground. BRICOLAGE have been perfecting their louche pop over the past couple of years. Live dates have included sortes with an eclectic array (Fire Engines, Long Blondes, Sun Ra’s Arkestra, 1990s, Vic Godard & Subway Sect, Franz Ferdinand), whilst three singles have been recorded for esteemed labels (Creeping Bent, Fantastic Plastic, Memphis Industries). A new single (Footsteps Redux) is released on Memphis Industries on 17th March. ISOSCELES building an impressive rep since releasing their debut single, Get Your Hands Off, on the ever excellent Art Goes Pop label(Leeds). This release resulted in substantial radio support, which in turn brought Isosceles to the attention of Franz Ferdinand. Franz invited Isosceles to accompany them on tour, which created quite a stushie among the more turned – on members of the A&R community. A new single is currently in preparation. You'll see above that Wednesdays Search for a 'Feature Artist' is Steph Macleod.
This decision was based many factors, namely originality and crowd response. When Steph started playing, the crowd stopped and listened. It was an honest performance that encapsulated the night and has set the standard for future weeks.
As yet my journalist associate has been too busy with other tasks to write up the reviews but these will be posted this weekend. Word has spread and all the feedback I have had has been extremely encouraging.
Spread the word and I want to see more acts next week.
