| About Fool’s Companion |
Fool’s Companion began in 1999 with Michael “Mickey” Tam as its sole musician and songwriter:
From an early age, I have always been fascinated with music and its impact on my life. I began playing the piano at the age of 6, and was privileged with the opportunity to study violin and guitar as well. In 1999, following my exposure to classical music, I began experimenting with rock/alternative song-writing – I worked hard to stretch myself creatively and generate different ideas to challenge both myself as a writer, as well as the audience.
In 2001, I wrote my first rock ballad – “What’s Left of Me.” I was proud of the song in terms of its emotion, and it became the first original work that I actually enjoyed hearing more than once. Over the next 6 years, I played in and out of bands, but always remained focused on my own projects as a musician. “Spring Break,” a tune written in 2003, remains one of my favorite Fool’s Companion songs today.
In 2006, I recruited three other members to play in local area shows through the following year. I was both surprised, and extremely grateful for the tremendous amount of support that we found in Cleveland and northeast Ohio. During the spring of 2007, I began working on the first Fool’s Companion album with producer Tempest Christopher. In February of 2008, the album will be released independently and available on CD Baby and Itunes.
Recently, I made the decision to return Fool’s Companion to its original solo-artist format. I feel much happier – that I am better able to focus my energy on the music…on the art, without having to deal with the pitfalls of the industry. Thank you to everyone for your support over the past few years and to those who made the upcoming record possible – I could not have done it without you, and I hope you find as much in these songs as I have. Welcome.
