Spanning 10+ years of computer music composition, atmosphere meister Chris Maples' sound has set moods just out of the reach of periphery. As toda_V, in 1996, he delved first into experimental and academic methods of creating spacey classical music on the album Lounge Backdrop and then with Hubris gave aliens feelings listeners could share in, providing edgey and obscure vibrations along side pop-worthy drums.
In 2004, Chris' appreciation of noisepop and dreampop bands such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cocteau Twins, Slowdive, and Curve coupled with a longtime fascination with futuristic dreamscapers and ambient protagonists such as Download and The Orb in his loop-based songwriting efforts, culminating in a 12 track LP of 'pretty beats', a 7 track LP of guitar space, and a yet-unreleased space rock album, along with about another album's worth of unfinished tracks. The sound he found therein was to him one of dreams of an imperfect future as the means to godhead and utopia, anarchy as a form of government, and eventually every man and woman being a star.
Flux Utopia blankets the standard views that perfection is impossible and utopia is just as much so with a critical ear and says, "How do you know if you don't try?" It really does help to stop complaining and just fucking do it! And then to not stop until you got it right. And then to not stop, ever.......
Evolution takes place to keep the organism alive in diverse environments. Flux Utopia continues to change with the cultural focal point, and in doing so welcomes collaboration, in all of it's forms. Why? Why not? A utopia in flux is a constantly changing organism. And it includes everyone....
