Ugh, it always makes me uncomfortable to talk or write about myself because I can't stand arrogance. Ironic that my putting the minimum effort into these profiles apparently made me come across as arrogant. So let's try this again.
Here's what I love. I love to write (about things other than myself). I love to take pictures. I love to think and to learn. I love animals (especially my cat, Miette) -- but not to the point of running a zoo. I love to play music. I love to play and watch sports. I love the water. I love to eat cookies. I have varying degrees of talent in those things, but they keep me sane (I recently realized that I teeter over the crazy borderline much more precariously than previously thought).
I just finished up a Master's in Economics at San Jose State, although my undergrad was in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at Cal over a decade ago. Depending on my mood, the intervening years were either a monumental waste of time in a career completely unsuitable for me, or the necessary process of developing skills I didn't realize I have and accumulating the capital that provided me the time and opportunity to figure out what I really wanted to do.
What I do know is that my political philosophy is that of classical liberalism, perhaps more commonly known as libertarianism. While the public perception of libertarianism is that of barking moonbats, please note that this is a side-effect of our two-party system. There are plenty of moderate and sane libertarians, and I would count myself as one of them... at least on my saner days.
I believed strongly enough in liberty that it was the impetus for my leaving behind a career that, at least monetarily, treated me well. And it was one reason I went to San Jose State, as their Economics Department leans towards free-market libertarianism. My original plan was to effect change in public policy by working at a think tank like the Cato Institute (where I interned last summer). After a career setback that shocked me out of following a path of least resistance, I'm no longer sure what I want to do or where I want to be, and thus am procrastinating on trying to figure this out by rewriting this profile. So if you have a suggestion for what I should do, I'm all ears.
Anyway, if you read this far and want more of my stuff, check out my photography (I also used to shoot for SJSU's The Spartan Daily) and my LiveJournal. If you share my interest in politics and/or economics or are interested in reading some of my more serious work, take a look at my "real" blog at fling93 loves fishies. It's not updated very often these days, but there's a plethora of material from the past three years worth checking out. These posts make a good start.
And note, I spend a lot more time at Facebook than MySpace.

Who I'd like to meet: Somebody capable of creating great beauty and who inspires me to create. Someone with incredible eyes that I can lose myself in for hours. Somebody with a keen intellect who can blow me away with deep insights. Someone with cute quirks who doesn't mind being silly and having fun. Someone with a great laugh that makes my toes curl. Someone who doesn't mind me being a geek in more ways than one.
Hope you had a blast at your b-day par tay. I had to go to my best friend's surprise b-day party - she turned 40 and needed moral support :-) Are you ready for John Wedemeyer's guitar unleashed next Friday at JJ-s?
Happy Birthday to the best brother! I'm a day late too. Mom and dad say your phone is always off, or you don't pick up, so they're concerned about you. I told them you're doing well (based upon your livejournal). Hope you really are doing well, and that you have a dope bday party!
(okay, i know it's a day late, but i did txt you on the actual day. plus you are my almost-ex-husband, not my husband-husband, so i am no longer legally required to actually wish you a happy birthday on your actual birthday)
but yeah. happy birthday. year of the pig. all that good stuff.
Happy New Year back at ya! What a year of change for us all ..... Thank goodness for the gift of another day. May Love Peace and Happiness embrace each and every step you take this year!
It's from Jayne's line in The Train Job:
"You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til you understand who's in ruttin' command here." One of my favorite lines. ^_^
Hey Felix! Just wanted to give a shout. Hope you're doing well. Love the pic of The Hat. It would go well with my Chain of Command (created for me by Brad, remember him?).
