| About Flight Crash Companion |
The Bio
Flight Crash Companion was "formed" in 2003 by Lizzy Tarantino (no relation) and Isabelle 'Izzo' Dubois while both girls were attending art school in Rhode Island. Neither had any real musical experience, but both were confident they had the makings of a great band: good looks, an insatiable appetite for cocaine, and a mutual desire to get famous and fuck over everyone who helped them get there.
In 2004, the founding members moved to New York City where they reunited with high school girlfriend Heather Peregrim. Peregrim was a real musician, and had been professionally touring and recording for the last 5 years. At first Peregrim was skeptical about "those two dumb bitches", but after the undeniable magic of that first meth-fueled rehearsal, FCC was officially formed. Drummer Sarah Maci-Keller, a professional acquaintance of Peregrim rounded out the group in late August 2004.
The FCC sound is all over the place, blending everything from rock to other kinds of rock. "We like to listen to a lot of different styles, so it seems pretty natural we'd make equally diverse music" states Tarantino. “We try to avoid boring our fans with the same song 15 times in a row. That only works if you're Pink Floyd".
Fight Crash Companion also refuses to play gigs, at least for now. According to bassist Dubois, this is matter of convenience as opposed to an artistic statement. "We hate hauling shit to and from sleazy clubs just to play for a couple of ballpeen hammers and a few drink tickets. Plus we're girls, so we're weak and can barely lift our heavy amplifiers.
In 2005, the band was signed to Pompeii Records and released their first EP to mediocre reviews and even worse record sales. Their sophomore effort, “An Untitled Winter”, was well received by critics but was also a commercial failure. "We don't really give a shit if our music sells. Izzo has like a $25 million dollar trust fund, and she let's us live in her apartment for free and use dad's credit card."
In 2008, the band was dropped by their label. A collection of unreleased tracks was released under the title “Criminals” to complete contractual obligations.
The band is currently working on their first full-length LP, tentatively titled "Cocaína Robotico". This record represents a shift for the girls to a more electronic sound. “The record is mostly about the Blowbots, a race of futuristic robots who run their batteries on cocaine and force the human race into slave labor cocoa famers. It’s also about some other stuff”
