About me:

The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial is the nation's oldest tuition-free art school — located in the heart of South Philadelphia.

Fleisher is guided by the spirit of its founder, who first extended an invitation in 1898 for 'the world to come and learn art.' More than a century later, Samuel Fleisher's singular vision of high-quality, tuition-free art instruction continues uninterrupted at the Memorial.

At Fleisher, artists of all backgrounds share in the commonality of the creative experience while studying with a distinguished faculty of working artists in fine arts mediums as diverse as painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and ceramics.

Throughout its history, Fleisher programs have impacted more than 500,000 individuals, whether through its in-house art classes for adults and children, or, more recently, via in-class and after school programs in area schools. Last year, over 4,000 students attended programs that offered more than 80 choices for visual arts study weekly. Additionally, the exhibition and performance programs over the past thirty years have featured and promoted the work of innumerable local, regional, national and internationally known artists.

For more information about Fleisher's programs, please visit www.fleisher.org.

The Samuel S. Fleisher Art Memorial is an Institutional Member of the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.

Dr. Sketchy's Philadelphia happens every third Friday at the Fleisher Art Memorial!

In exchange for $12, artists are treated to burlesque dancers, fetish divas, sideshow freaks, and roller derby queens modeling in elaborate costumes. During breaks, artists compete for booze and prizes. There are fantastic tunes, smart-aleck emcees and a gossipy blog that dishes the dirt the next day.

Past installments have featured models from the Peek-a-Boo Revue, Olde City Sideshow, The Hellcat Girls Burlesque, The Philly Roller Girls, and Liberty City Kings (LiCK). You can see photographs from previous events here.

Click here for more information and tickets.

Who I'd like to meet:
Artists, musicians, and creative people of all kinds.

WHERE WE ARE NOW...
Stella & Dinah, huggin' up

Dear Fleisher,

THE GRAND KILN is moving steadily forward. Slowly. Comfortably. ...but steadily. I like it. It's big, like a tree migration caught somehow using a stop motion camera...

I'm asking you, and a bunch of others, to look again at what we're doing, and think if there are two, three, four friends of yours who would get an enormous kick out of where this is all going... if they only knew. For fun, if you're of a mind to, forward our GRAND KILN page to them...

They don't have to be potters or ukelele players, but they should be those among your friends who possess that soul defining spark of a mischievous sprite...

Y'know... like that!

Nashville's own Plowhaus presents Freeks and Geaks — an exhibition of freaky proportions — starting July 20, 2007.
Artists Colonel J.D. Wilkes, James Mundie and Brett Whitacre present original art that will arouse curiosity of
the unusual, intrigue fascination with the indefinable, and definitely wow.

Freeks and Geaks begins with an opening reception on Friday, July 20th, from 7 to 11 p.m. and runs through August 5th, 2007. The Plowhaus is located at 211 South 17th Street, East Nashville TN 37206.
