FiL began his recording career way back in 1982, as third bass clarinetist with the North Jersey Area Band Association’s Junior High School Band on the recording of their 18th annual concert (Crest Records, NJ-11782). After flubbing the opening to "The Star Spangled Banner," he gave up his recording career for academic pursuits, including a stint at Rutgers where he met some friends who had a band called Action Potential.
Inspired by Action Potential’s prodigious output, in 1997 he released his own cassette, "World of FiL", followed by the much rarer "Skeletons in My Closet". Around this time, Action Potential were in a creative slump, so they sought to rejuvenate themselves with some fresh blood. Having already recorded some unreleasable versions of songs written by FiL, they decided to give him a call. A recording session was then held at FiL’s (now-defunct) Waste-of-Tape Studios in Highland Park, N.J., and a day was duly wasted recording many unlistenable tracks.
Unduanted, the band went on to finish recording their first CD, "Retrograde", which FiL mixed. After many more recording sessions at the Nexus and FiL’s (now-defunct) Giant Maza Music Playground, a second CD was created, "Reaching". Squabbles about the packaging however, broke up tha band.
During the summer of 2000, FiL got the idea to record and release new songs on his web site all summer long. Thus, FiL’s Summer Shorts was born. Someone asked for a copy of all the songs on CD, so "The Summer Shorts EP" was duly slapped together. Believe it or not, songs from this CD actually got played on a tiny radio station in Ossining, NY.
At the tail end of 2000, Antny, who had followed Action Potential with two less successful groups, decided to capture some of the old AP magic, and One Note Drone was born. After a few years of recording, mostly at FiL’s current studio, Blunderama, One Note Drone released their debut CD, "Burning Time", in early 2004.
During a lull in 1ND activity, FiL’s sporadic solo career resumed with 2005’s "Isobel EP". The world remains unimpressed.
In late 2006, 1ND resumed recording, and in December, they released a Christmas single, "Feliz Navidad". Look for new recordings from FiL and 1ND in 2008!
