With her deceptively fragile, almost childlike voice, she could pass as a third McGarrigle sister.Glasgow Herald (Scotland)
Fil Campbell has been likened to a lot of female performers, but can be compared to none. She has a unique voice and a knack of making every song her own. The Word (Ireland)
Fil Campbell has a gently commanding way with a song she draws you in slowly until its a case of sweet surrender. Folk Roots (UK)
All of the official stuff about me and my life as singer is further down the page and at my website on www.filcampbell.com I hope you enjoy the music and that you'll stay a while
I'm loving meeting all the people I'm coming across here and I add people to my site for many different reasons: those who i think will be interested in what I'm doing: friends old and new; bands and singers and musicians that i've been a fan of forever; new music that i want to check out; music that i want to keep up to date with for my occasional radio programmes; people i come across who just sound fun, interesting or mad; craftsmen and women (I'm a knitter and love jewellry); healers and inspirational people...
I rotate my top friends regularly so check some of them out - there's some amazing music and craft among the people who have honoured me bey joining my friends' list.
I look forward to meeting you and i hope that 2008 is a wonderful year for us all.
Fil
Fil Campbell is a traditional singer and songwriter and broadcaster from Co. Fermanagh in Northern Ireland.
Fil's current project is Songbirds- the First Ladies of Irish Song, a multi media project honouring the music from her childhood and the women who made the songs famous. There is a 6 part TV documentary and an accompanying CD plus a DVD of the series. The show is now going on the road as a live concert.
The First Ladies of Irish Song featured in Songbirds are Margaret Barry, Delia Murphy, Bridie Gallagher, Ruby Murray, and Mary O'Hara . They were the voices of the 30s, 40s and 50s in Ireland. All 5 sang similar songs in completely different styles and all had an influence on Fil as a singer in one way or another. The TV series was first shown on RTE TV in Ireland in November and December 2005 and there is currently interest to broadcast it in the USA and various European countries throughout 2006 and 2007. The accompanying CD and DVD are widely available. There's loads more information about the women and the project at www.songbirds.tv
Fil has been a regular performer on the European, UK and Irish folk circuits since the mid 90s. She has recorded 3 contemporary solo albums before Songbirds - Beneath The Calm (2002), Dreaming (1996), The Light Beyond the Woods (1992) as well as another project album recorded for the Summer Solstice in 2001 with the band Jaimidi entitled Turn of the Day. She has shared the stage with Van Morrison, Jackson Browne and many top Irish and British artists including Mary Black & Kieran Goss. Her songs have been recorded by other European and UK folk artists. She plays guitar, piano and flute, comes originally from Belleek in Co. Fermanagh and now lives in Rostrevor in Co. Down.
