Farmer Dave Scher has lent his pedal steel prowess to a number of big name acts, including (but definitely not limited to) Elvis Costello, Jenny Lewis, Vetiver, and Interpol.
In the late 1990s, he was a core member of the California-based indie pop group Beachwood Sparks, and he co-founded the short-lived duo All Night Radio with fellow Beachwood Sparks member Jimi Hey in 2002. Scher put out his first solo album, Flash Forward to the Good Times, on the Brooklyn, NY-based label Kimado Records in the summer of 2009. A tongue-in-cheek affair that melded soft rock, album rock, and indie pop sensibilities (in other words, sounding something like a cross between Joe Walsh and Beachwood Sparks), the album featured guest appearances by producer Thom Monahan (whose previous credits included work for Devendra Banhart) and members of Entrance and VietNam. ~ Margaret Reges
