"As long
as it has a beat and a bassline, I’m there!"
The eclectic
mix of Rob Henry’s record collection may well brace you for the music he produces.
Radiohead, Jill Scott and the Specials stacked up together with Aphex Twin,
Timberland and Jimmy Smith. Combine this with his previous experiences with
the ’electro-static’ Children of
the Bong and the ’brazenly breakbeat’ Euphonic
and you’re in for one hell of an aural explosion.
The two HOT projects at the moment are Neech and SOW
Street chanteuse
and songwriter, Neech, fills in the gap between PJ Harvey and Jill Scott,
letting her inspirations blow from all directions. Featured tracks go from
the sultry acoustic ’summer
stories’ to the fuzzed-up warped forces that drive ’Thinking
’bout U’. ’Who
is the what?’ spotlights Neech in a smokey jazz den on Mars...

Neech has put
together a collective of like-minded musicians to create live transformations
of the studio productions. To compliment the electronics provided by Rob Henry,
a band including live drums, guitar, bass and string section sets the backdrop
for Neech’s compelling performance.
Female spoken
word artist Anna Wildsmith is better known as SOW. Under that moniker she
made one of the best albums of 1998, "Sick". There she whispers,
grunts, hisses and half sings over music by among others Raymond Watts (a
k a Pig), Martin King of Test Dept, KMFDM and the ever eclectic Euphonic.
The results are rarely less than amazing, and the tracks end up somewhere
between spoken word and more conventional song structures.
Continuing the
partnership with Euphonic Productions, Sow has indulged in more studio frolics,
culminating in this selection.. ’Blue
Sheets’ is an angel teetering on the brink of insanity, with a
truly demented middle 8! The pounding ’No
Candy’ laments the excesses of a friday night binge. This Raw mish-mash
electric soup made from prime beats has the freshest slice of attitude around
(and not a pig pun in sight!)
"The result
is upsetting and uplifting at the same time, as we are lured into a world,
peopled by stricken minds who show their despair but then share its delights."thesickcity.com
