We were all sitting around a kitchen table talking about the things that matter most; who we are, what we care about, and the need for change in and out of church. Some of us were Christians, some of us weren’t. We talked about friendship and isolation; rejection and acceptance; commitment and abandonment. Then out of nowhere it happened…
Conversation transformed from simple words into brainstorming. We began to write down what a church would look like with us in it. Our unconventional appearances, our piercings and tattoos, the rappers and rock stars; DJs, producers and engineers; singers and musicians. The abstract artists and writers, the graphic designers, retired taggers and piecers. The mix breeds of culture; chicano, black, white and asian. The kids who had kids too early, the single moms and dads, and minimum wage earners. The seniors that society wants to forget.
Our thoughts and ideas began to burn to a degree that became magnetic. Right there, in front of us all, our words clustered together and all the right pieces fit.
That day, our Ethos was born. An Ethos where people can sincerely question God... An effort that gives more than it gets, battles for trust, and is based on real character and friendship. An Ethos that has a story that is still being written in the biographies of our lives and believe it or not now includes you, whether you are close or distant. Whether you believe or don’t believe, HE believes in you, and we do too…
