Inspired by the growing success of compatriots like Amorphis and Impaled Nazarene, Finland's Elenium formed in the town of Vantaa in 1995, and set about giving this heavy metal thing a spin of their own.
Over the next few years, a number of rough demos and sporadic live appearances (including a crucial one with the fast rising Children of Bodom in 1998) eventually drew the attention of independent record labels, resulting in their releasing a single called "This Side of Paradise" that same year. But another long creative gestation would take place before Elenium -- now consisting of vocalist Jukka, guitarists Tommi Leinonen and Kasperi Heikkinen, keyboardist Johannes Salo, bassist Tuomo Raisanen, and drummer Mikko Niemela -- scored a new deal with Rage of Achilles Records and released 2003's For Giving -- For Getting debut album. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
