Now on iTunes: Steve Layton’s realization of darfur pogrommen (2007)

Toub: darfur pogrommen

world premiere recording of mf for string quartet

about me

I was born in Newark, NJ in 1961, and have been described as a postminimalist composer, although I’m not a big fan of labels. While influenced by many composers, including Feldman, Reich, Glass, Webern, Messiaen, Bartok and others, I follow my own voice and ideas. Recent works include ushabti (violin and piano) (2007-2008), and darfur pogrommen (open instrumentation) (2007). I also have written an extended piece for string quartet called for philip glass (it has nothing to do with the aforementioned composer). You can hear an excerpt above---it’s two hours long in one continuous section.

shameless self-promotion:

A 96khz/24bit audio DVD containing a string quartet arrangement (mf) of the last movement of brass piece for arielle victoria is available from OgreOgress Productions. My music may be found on the Web radio stations PostClassic Radio and Contemporary Classical Radio, and has also been featured on Music from Other Minds on KALW-FM in San Francisco.

I continue to compose music for different instrumental groupings, much of which may be found on my music page. If you are intrigued, please feel free to go to my music site and download the free audio files and scores (PDF format). Put the files on your iPod, share them with your friends... whatever. The more people who listen, the better. And if you would like to perform one or more compositions, you can download the score---just drop me an e-mail to let me know you’re interested, and I can also provide parts as needed.

Hi David, thanks for the kind words about my music on (one of my two) MySpace (pages). I made two pages by mistake last month when the first one didn't kick in for three weeks here in The Netherlands but decided to keep it, as there are different kinds of music on both. I have always enjoyed your sounds, your postings on your site/Sequenza21 and your sharing of ideas, in general. Yes, we had a conversation about the beautiful naked pianist on the cover of a cd of women composers (including my music) last September on Sequenza21. Thanks for adding me to your MySpace site (twice!) and for the review(s). Best wishes for your music and other endeavors, Vanessa

Hi david toub,
Just stopped by to say hello and thank you again for your friendship. I am honored by it.

I also wanted to tell you that I am casting for several musicians, vocalist, and dancers. I am producing a show for tour and need artists not only for recording but for touring as well. As you may or may not know, I am preparing for a tour this summer/ fall to five cities across the globe, and am looking for solid talent. Since you have been so kind in lending me your ear, and offering your friendship, I thought I might come to myspace before putting ads in the trades. So I came to myspace first.

PLEASE READ IN DETAIL... it may answer your questions. I am offering a flat rate for service or a percentage of profits off the sales of recorded material. That part is up to you. Rates and fees will be discussed upon approval in the first round of the selection process. If you know of someone who might be interested in this information, please pass this note on to them.

Here’s what I am looking for:
Orchestral:
Violin, Viola, Cello
Oboe, French Horn, Trumpet, Clarinet
Primary & Secondary Percussionist

Vocal:
SATB / Female & Male – Lead Capability

Dance:
Ballet, Point, Lyrical

Here is what you need to do:
E-mail me with your name and age (18+ only) and current contact information such as an e-mail address to tim@composertimoneil.com. Please forward all questions and querries to tim@composertimoneil.com. Please list three of your major accomplishments with your art; such as degrees or special performances. Make sure to include a Current Photo (JPEG or Bitmap only), MP3 (music) or WMV (video for dance or live performance) of some of your best work; something that make you stand out from the rest. Please do not send anything that lasts for more than 30 seconds and no file over 10 mb will be accepted. Make it short and sweet, and make it count. If I need any more material, I will let you know. The cutoff date for accepting material
