Draksen was formed in mid 1986 by Andres Rodriguez, Gregg Argenziano and Ernesto Catalan.
Although this was an embryonic line up, it did record one rehearsal. After Gregg stepped out of drums, Martin Lugo became the new drummer and with the addition of Oscar Del Rio, the first full line up of the band came together in March of 1987. Formed under the name DRAKKAR, the band released its first demo in 1988, "Thrashcore". Despite its poor quality it was widely accepted around the world through the enormous tape trading of the late 80's. In January 1989 the band changed the last 3 letters of the band and became DRAKSEN. Soon after, the thrashcore demo was re released to let people know of the change. By mid 1989, Andres leaves Draksen and his place is taken by Luiz Ahumada from the band Crucified. With this line up, in December of 1989 Draksen records "From Beyond", their second demo. Benefitting from a stronger production and more powerful sound, "From Beyond" was a hit with the underground crowd. Soon after its release, Oscar leaves the band and Francisco Uribe takes his place. A series of concerts outside of Guadalajara during the first half of 1990 spread the word about Draksen and its "from beyond" demo. A 3rd line up change occurs when Martin Lugo drops out and his place is taken by former Twitch drummer (and Ernesto's high school friend) Mike Moon. With Mike on board Draksen earns an opening slot for Sacred Reich in Mexico City, during their "American Way" tour in early 1991. Independent label Wild Rags (from L.A.), re distributes the "From Beyond"demo in cassette form worldwide, a first for a Mexican band. International magazines such as METAL MANIACS and Creem's THRASH METAL review the demo, another first for any Mexican band. Despite the acclaim, early 1991 also signals a lack of interest towards Draksen by virtually all members; Luiz Ahumada and Ernesto Catalan, along with current Draksen manager Juan Carlos Guerrero, form Hardware. Francisco Uribe was disinterested in the band and was asked to leave. Ernesto made a second thought and decided to stick with Draksen, along with Mike Moon. By late mid 1991, Alejandro Isaac and Fabian Medina take guitar and bass respectively. Soon after Mike Moon leaves the band to return to the States and Tacho Torres fills the drum stool. This final line up tries its best to put Draksen back on the map and succeeds by releasing in late 1993 the bands long awaited debut album through Mix Records. Despite being known nationally and abroad, Mix Records refuses to release the album on the then new CD format. Many long time followers assume the release is just another demo. Despite this, the album is well received. By 1994, the local musical climate was shifting; it was either extreme death metal or soft pop rock (there were no so-called "alternative" bands at this point in Guadalajara). Close friends of the band were telling them to push their sound towards a more death style. Despite this, Draksen soldiered on. In the very end, close friend Carlos Muñoz from the band Murder was asked to handle the vocals to relieve Ernesto so he could concentrate on his guitar playing. One last concert was performed on December of 1994, along with doom metallers The Obsessed. After this concert, the band amicably split: Alejandro Isaac founds Fahrenheit and Ernesto and Tacho form Stamina, a metal/punk/alternative band with future Better/Roswell members Temo Dominguez and Alejandro Sanchez. The band hasn't played onstage together since that December 1994 concert.
