Do You Do Any Wings?'s Interests
|
| General | Going out and playing in bands, and then going home and writing about it at www.skirky.blogspot.com - come on in, the water's lukewarm... | | Music | All kinds of everything. They remind me of you. | | Books | Guy Pratt, Stuart Maconie, Giles Smith, Jon Ronson, Seb Hunter, Andrew Collins, Johnny Rogan, Nick Hornby, Mark Radcliffe, David Hughes, Bruce Thomas, Ian Hunter. | | Heroes | What a long, relatively normal trip it’s been. On this journey, which has proved conclusively that you can get there from here, I have been accompanied by, or accompanied in some way, the following people, to whom grateful thanks are extended for the patience, talent, encouragement or refreshment that they have all provided at some point and without whom you wouldn’t be reading this now. So you can blame them. Magwytch, Brute Force & Ignorance, Joey and The Juggernauts, The Fox, Claire M, The World Service, The Free Albanian Air Force, This Much Talent, As Is, The Star Club, Small Town, Frisky, Shev and The Brakes, The Perfectly Good Guitars, Shagger and Songs From The Blue House. Honourable mentions for Richard at The Mills, Val at The Roberts and Big Paul from The Bass House for services rendered. Thanks are also principally due to Wendell Gee, Frisky Pat, Gibbon, Kilbey and Reado out of The Picturehouse Big Band, whose diary this also coincidentally and unknowingly turned into, and who appear throughout. Wendell also did design, The Gallaghers helped with suggestions for punctuation and H put up with our front room looking like a second-hand musical equipment dealership and repeated use of the phrase “I won’t be long….” |

About me:
Shane Kirk has been playing guitar, writing songs and persuading his friends that it’s a good idea if they listen to him doing both for over hmmnhmmnhmnn years now. It’s probably that he started quite late that has instilled in him such a devout fervour about it now - either that or something deeply upsetting in his past that probably only expensive therapy or cheap gin will help reveal. Having previously embraced the big hair and hard rocking attitudes of the NWOBHM, insofar as his Mum would allow (which wasn’t that far to be honest), Shane went on to build on the twin encouragements of Mr Strugnell out of the English department and Neil Young out of The Buffalo Springfield and turned into a decidedly low rent Billy Bragg, if you can imagine such a thing. Several over-generous and unimaginably patient pub landlords and landladies allowed him to maintain the semblance of a louche bohemian lifestyle in those balmy eighties evenings (while a series of day jobs actually paid for the groceries) and a number of groups in the IP postcode were grateful recipients of his absurdly postured guitar stylings before after one final dramatic hurrah in the late nineties he, tragically, moved to Battersea. Shortly afterwards the company rather unfairly relocated to Ipswich, which was where he’d just come from and so he was able to start all over again. Shane is married, lives in Suffolk and has three electric guitars, an acoustic guitar and a bouzouki, which he uses mainly for playing the Harry Lime theme on and improvising Monty Python’s Cheese Shop Sketch.
