I have been spinning since my mom first hooked me up with my sister’s old Fisher Price record player. I used to sneak into my sister’s rooms take their LPs and try and "scratch" on them on that plastic thing. I was a shorty when the art of break dancing came on the scene and used to put on break shows and travel with a rolled up piece of flooring, just in case I needed to dance somewhere other than home. I grew up obsessed with all types of music: rap, R&B, techno, classical, folk... you name it and I could throw on something from that genre.
In high school I didn’t like the sound of the school dances so I decided to do something about it. I didn’t own equipment at the time but I utilized two CD players with fader buttons on them and got the dance pumped. It was during this time that I also used to sell "gray tapes." This was not a lwaful endevor but my music was expensive and I had a single parent so I had to find a way to keep the new music rolling in without going in debt. I still run into people from high school that tell me they "came across this tape the other day..." That was 12 years ago!!!!
Now that I am all grown up I am the resident DJ for Lavender Lens Productions and have spun at various spots in San Diego. The list includes: Spin Spin Sugar @ Bacchus House, One Stop Fridays @ South Park B & G, Ladies Night @ The Brass Rail,Ultra Lounge @ The Flame, V.I.B.E. @ Dino’s, The Rubber Rose, and Paletti @ The Union.
Along with my love of playing music comes my love of dance. I can and will move for 4 hours straight without missing a beat. I can dance to anything but will not dance to everything. My favorite local DJs to throw down to are: DJ Tova for my hip hop styles and DJ Kiki for my techno/ house groove. Dancing is a pure joy to me, I can loose myself and let another DJ worry about the blends for a while.
************WAITIN’ FOR THE DJ**************
Yes I got some emails from local 'Artiest' upset that I'm not 'underground' enough. So I knocked out an Audrey on a Pizza Hut Box. And yes a Pan Pizza Meat Lover's Specialty Pizza had to pay the price for this artwork. And yes it was very good. Let us know if you want it. Bidding starts at $100 bucks. Comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity and all of that. Painting is painted on all sides, so you don't even have to frame it. And besides I'm being green. ~Jamie Roxx
