Taj Mahal, David Bromberg, John Herald, Woodstock Mt. Revue, Keb Mo, Arlo Guthrie, Pete Seeger, John Sebastian, Pat Alger, Happy Traum, Artie Traum, Geoff Muldaur, the Mammals, Jay and Molly, and too many of the locals to list.
A note about the music posted here. They were all recorded live at a house concert in Saugerties in Feb. 07. Both Back Door Blues and Hats off to the Cajun Moon are John Herald tunes that I play in his memory. I am accompanied by Bruno Bruzzese on Fiddle (and harmonica on Back Door Blues) and Matt Bowe on the Mandolin. Terri Massardo sings the Amazing Grace verse in "House of the Rising Sun".
I have this bad running habit that has long been side tracking my guitar playing. But, as the years pile up, and the miles, so have the notes, and more and more I have been enjoying playing with others and performing. But my first love has always been long distance running and hopefully I can keep both of those bad occupations going until I'm 101.
When not out pounding myself to junk, I can be found playing with a host of the locals and sometimes under the name Smokin Dick and The Big River Band. If it can't be loads of fun, this music thing that is, well then, what's the point. I play an assortment of genres, folk-blues-bluegrass-jug band-pop-traditional, to whatever. Some of my favorite friends to share the stage with are Matt Bowe, The Big Caboose (Enrico Scull), Steve and Terri Massardo, from the John's Street Jam, Bruno Bruzzese (the best fiddler I have ever performed with), Harry Jameson on the Wash Tub bass, and Bruce Hildenbrand a wild guitar player.
A CD of sorts is in the works but who knows when it will get off the bench and onto the runway. Rag on me about the tunes I have posted, but it is the best I could do on short notice. If you care to visit the my web site for a great trail race in the Catskill Mountains, visit www.escarpmenttrail.com. In the meantime, drop a note and say hello.
Dick, what's new? I always see a handful of gigs posted on here so I know you're keeping busy. Hey, I saw a picture of Cody in the paper today too. All-Star 2nd baseman!
Smokin' Dick, Smolderin' Holt here. Wishing you a belated congratulation's on 33 continuous years of self-abuse! It's lunatics like yourself who've turned me into the idiot I am today, and I'm truly grateful for it!
AHHHH!!! The snow messed it all up. But I'll see you soon at Muddy Cup, right? Sorry for not talking to you much on Friday, but that was one crazy night! Talk to you soon.
HOWDY DICK, WISH WE COULD DO A GIG IN YOUR PARTS. BUT WE ALL HAVE DAY JOBS AND STUFF LIKE THAT! THANKS FOR BEING OUR FRIEND! THE KAHUNA COWBOYS JUG BAND
HA! Cody is a Macy's my-spammer! He should change his password.
Anyway, are you still unavailable this Saturday? Because my BAND will be playing at The Catskill Point from 8PM to possibly Midnight. It's a brand new experience and you should hear it for yourself. ROCK! Hope to see you there.
