Unhealthy fear of stretchmarks and hemorrhoids
Im sorry, but todays blog might get a little graphic for those with weak stomachs (probably mostly men because they dont have to deal with most of these crazy things!)
It seems that over the last few weeks, I've developed an intense fear of "pregnancy ailments" including stretch marks and hemorrhoids. I guess the reality of these very real problems set in once my belly really started to get noticeably bigger.
My poor friends, family, and doctor have been getting drilled with questions about these issues (and a bunch of others!). I found out that 80% of pregnant women get hemorrhoidsIm really hoping that by some miracle I fall into the 20% of those who are in the clear. But just in case, Im mentally preparing myself to go to the store and purchase my first installment of Preparation HYIKES! Im also eating lots of fiber, trying to get up and walk around a bit while Im at work, and not over exerting myself while visiting the ladies room(whatever that means??).
In response to my fear of stretch-marks, my adorable husband has been an angel. Every night, he rubs oil and cocoa butter on my belly to help my skin adjust with the baby. This also gives him a chance to talk to the baby, its so cute (the baby can hear at this point, how exciting!). I think this nightly tradition will become even more special as the baby gets bigger and becomes more active. It will also become increasingly beneficial to my skin as by belly goes from a rolling hill to Mt. Everest!
Ive found a really great book that has given me a dose of humor in all these sometimes uncomfortable pregnancy situations Ive experienced so far. Its called Belly Laughs by Jenny McCarthy. If youve heard of Jenny McCarthy, you can pretty much imagine what her documentation of her journey through pregnancy would be like (pretty crazy). She shares the experience of having her son Evan through this hilarious book that only those who have experienced pregnancy can truly appreciate.
I also went to the Yeah Baby Expo in Long Beach, CA last weekend. It was so much fun! It definitely helped me to get in the baby buying mood. There are so many great products out there to make life easier for moms...and the adorable babies there helped too...

There's nothing matronly about this maternity lingerie!

The easiest lingerie to pull off (and put on, for that matter) is often the smallest item thats already in your underwear drawer: the low-rise thong. Its expanses of elastic easily stretch across your growing girth, covering the necessary netherregions while tucking neatly under your belly. These styles, like this one thats available in leopard print, also protect you from falling victim to VPL, which is a big no-no even during pregnancy.
Prefer a sexy set or a come-hither cami? Youre in luck, and lacy lingerie can be even more belly friendly than what youre likely wearing to bed. (And your hubby will probably appreciate getting his boxers back.) This is because most designs are made with stretchy fabrics that provide plenty of give to accommodate all your expanding parts.
Styles designed to flatter the belly are particularly comfortable, either because the midsection is exposed or because its gently draped with fabric like with this racy red number. Even when the bump is covered, there is plenty of soft, stretchy fabric involved. The goal with these styles, as with this pastel blue mesh baby doll set, is to play up your boobs, transforming them from engorged to gorgeous.
And finally, because its so necessary we must mention that Spanx now comes in a maternity version. Because when you feel good in clothes, you feel better about yourself. Even when youre ( nearly) naked.
