Sounds Like
Debra has developed her voice through choirs, lessons in her teens, playing the piano and singing a variety of musical styles. Debra began singing in public at the wedding reception of her sister at the age of 11. In high school she sang in local and traveling choirs singing everything from foreign languages to a capella pieces and she was featured in school musical productions. College brought on a new era of Black Gospel when she directed the United Voices of Praise gospel choir. This diverse background leads her to sound like Sara Evans, Whitney Houston, Norah Jones, Amy Grant, Mariah Carey, Martina McBride, and Alison Krauss. Any other comparisons?
Singing since she can remember, Debra lives just south of Nashville, TN where she spends her time songwriting and lending her voice to demos, background singing, a local church worship team and the alto section of the Nashville choir. She is devoted to country but also loves to sing all types of music in the studio and on stage. Prior to TN, Debra grew up in New Jersey where she enhanced her voice through musicals and numerous choirs. After college she set down roots in Delaware where she was an active member of her church and a teacher for several years. While in DE, Debra won a local talent contest at a dinner theater called Three Little Baker's Idol. This, along with other musical successes encouraged her to move to a musical community, and Nashville was it! The self-titled debut CD came out in the summer of 2007. This album features cherished songs from her church upbringing. This CD can be purchased by contacting Debra through this site or purchasing individual tracks below. Debra is currently gaining the attention of the Nashville music community. In the fall of 2007 she was a top 16 finalist in the CMT Music City Madness 2 contest with her song Then You Come Around. This song also won her the vote as artist of the month in December 2007 as well as songwriter of the month for March at mctmgradio.com , an internet radio site devoted to promoting independent artists. Her music is featured at indiecharts.com/debragordon and mctmgradio.com. CD credits include, Alaska (2008), Refuge (2008), Debra Gordon (2007), Communion: Peaceful Piano Meditations (2007), A Stone's Throw Away (2004), and Irish Whistles (2004). New music will always be on the way. Keep an eye out for Debra Gordon around town and in the music industry, she is only just beginning!
it was amazing!, but very tireing, most days i got to bed at 3:00am, and woke up 6:45am to make breakfast for the other 250 mambers, but i got lessons on how to play traditional grip(one stick in right hand, one in left, left hand is upside down while playing) from the snare captain jake, he's awsome, and on the plane ride there southwest served monster energy drink, so it was pretty awsome.
Thank you very much for letting me join your circle of friends. I hope to see you out on the road real soon. Keep the blues alive and keep on keeping the faith! Peace and Love! Shirley King, Daughter of The Blues
