BIO
Though only twenty-three, David McMillin has experienced a lifetime of love and loss, of good times and heartbreak. He’s been quietly touring the country for almost two years, steadily following the road that the original troubadours took. Some call his music folk or blues, others say it’s alt. country. He's got his own name for it: "old-fashioned whiskey and cigarettes rock and roll."
This summer McMillin will release his new album, Heartsteady. It's a "hopeful record," he describes. "It proves that there is beauty everywhere, that there are people that make the world better, and that growing up can be easier than we think."
With the forthcoming release of his new album, McMillin intends to prove that the power of the listener outweighs everything else. Just as he has done before, he will travel from city to city, playing shows and building a grassroots following, never stopping to look back. In a recent documentary, he told the interviewer, "the theme of my life is movement." McMillin's tour plans for the summer and fall will take him all across North America.
David’s voice is unmistakable: deep, powerful, and honest. His lyrics are introspective, heavy and profound, yet they manage to remain simple. He conveys complicated feelings in just a few effortless words. With a guitar and pen always nearby, David moves from place to place, always focused on how to improve his last song or how to begin his next song. Music permeates his life.
Most of David’s influence for writing comes from an internal struggle. That struggle, the paradox between a love for the city and an unbreakable bond with the country, never ceases in his music, or in his life.
Heartsteady will be available in stores and online on Tuesday, August 19th. Visit http://www.davidmcmillinmusic.com or htttp://www.myspace.com/davidmcmillin for more information.
David's Biography
The truth is you should not trust biographies. Especially about musicians.
We write songs about hundreds of places and people. The least we can do is try to write our own stories.
I’m a 24-year old songwriter. I live in Chicago by way of Louisville, Kentucky by birth in southern Indiana. We are all born with talents, and some of us are lucky enough to discover these skills and learn to use them. I’ve used my guitar and my voice as a good excuse to travel the country, meet new people and call many different places home. Many of the people I call my friends are the same people that I listen to on the radio.
I have fallen in love in four airports. I am both an early morning and a late night person. Today, my three favorite records are Michael Jackson’s “Off the Wall”, Counting Crows’ “August and Everything After” and Bob Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited.”
I hope to live in California one day, just so I can say that I did. “Bridge Over Troubled Water” is my favorite song in the history of musical notes. Mondays are my favorite days because I enjoy having a whole week in front of me.
If I could be anything, I would be wise. If I could be anywhere, I would be on a stage. If I could be anyone, I would be me.
I recently finished a new record called Heartsteady. You will learn a lot more about me if you listen to the songs.
