Who I'd like to meet: Readers. Thinkers. Dreamers.
Last week when I was downtown, people watching during the DNC, I noticed that the Denver Fire Department had put a John McCain doll on their fire truck. I would love to know how people feel about this. Was it a display protected by "freedom of speech" or was it wrong because they used a city vehicle to promote their political opinion? My thought was it was wrong because once you put on a uniform you represent the city not just yourself. If the firefighters want to put McCain stickers all over their private cars that's no problem, but once they represent the city it is a problem. Just kind of wondering what people out there think.
The World is watching Denver this week, to see politicians, pundits, and protestors. Our basketball and hockey arena has been transformed into a speech emporium and worldwide media center. Our football stadium will rock, while our highways fall silent. It's the Democrat National Convention. Regardless of your politics, I hope you'll enjoy this clip I found on YouTube, created about a month before the convention, that gives some insights into the city of Denver and some of the preparation for the convention.

Imagine sitting down in a tattoo parlor, offering your back to the artist and saying "Paint me with your needle." You have no idea what will happen, and neither does he. I did this and wrote about it.

Please join BITCH publisher Debbie Rasmussen for a participatory discussion about how - and whether - feminism can become a transformative movement for social change.
* How can we drive attention to the power, privilege and marginalization that continue to play out in feminist communities and how can those of us with power and privilege become effective, genuine allies to those without it?
* How can we collectively create an independent feminist media - justice movement that doesn't rely on white supremacy, class privilege and economic exploitation?
* Can the idea of "feminism" shift to foreground an uncompromising, transformative commitment to systemic social change or is it time to evolve to new language?
