Cryptical Development Graphic Art & Design's Blurbs |
About me:
Jeff Miller has been a mainstay and a driving force of the jamband art scene since 1988. He's collaboratively produced many memorable designs and concepts for t-shirts, stickers and the like, which have graced the parking lots and merchandise booths of many of today's top groups. Beginning around 1992, Jeff consulted for jamband pioneers such as Gov't Mule, Blues Traveler, and Widespread Panic contributing ideas, working with other artists, and supplying artwork for commission. In 1995 he was hired by Widespread Panic as an independent sales representative, and shortly there after, formed Big Electric Dog Productions, specializing in art concepts and artist representation and as liaisons to the bands.
By 2000, Jeff began filtering his concepts through a shiny new Dell computer, teaching himself the ins and outs of Photoshop and other related programs. Jeff cut his teeth creating artwork and logos for his other businesses, Human Hemp and Kind K-9. Having always loved and respected the musical & visual art of the Grateful Dead and many of the pioneering sixties artists such as David Singer, Stanley Mouse, and legendary Austin artist, Michael Priest, Jeff began producing "parking lot" posters to be given away and traded at Widespread Panic shows, a long-standing tradition of the jamband scene. In early 2001 Jeff created the cover art for the seminal Austin jam band "Flounders Without Eyes", and was subsequently hired to do the CD layout as well.
That's when Cryptical Development was born.
Jeff soon began submitting poster designs to various promoters in Texas and beyond, and was hired for many top shows including Widespread Panic, Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Frustrated with the lack of printing quality the promoters were providing, Jeff reigned in the production aspect of his growing graphic arts business. Beginning in June 2002, Jeff now oversees full production of his artwork providing high quality, limited edition posters to many of the country's top festivals and venues.
Jeff effortlessly mixes styles and effects to come up with designs which lend a feel to the event as only someone with true appreciation for the music could. When asked what the greatest thing about his success has been, Jeff says "I finally have the opportunity to make a living by doing what I have a passion for, creating memorable art for the music & bands I love, who have inspired me from the first note". Jeff's art is not the type you see only in the hands of dealers. His designs are prominently displayed prior to the events for advertisement in the Austin, TX area and far beyond, as well as in the venues themselves. Constantly providing eye candy and a visual accompaniment to the burgeoning music scene, his posters are quick to be snatched up as collectable mementos. Many of his designs are also used in national magazines and the alternative newspapers used to advertise bands & upcoming events. Clients include Widespread Panic, 10,000 Lakes Festival, Clear Channel Entertainment, Bill Bass Concerts, Railroad Earth, & many more.
