My grandfather, Harry Kuch, was an Eagle Scout and lifelong supporter of the Philadelphia Boy Scouts.
My grandparents donated a sizable portion of their net worth to save and improve this building. They dedicated it to the memory of my uncle, Bruce Marks, who lived his life in service to others. He died as a missionary, saving the life of a young girl on a Lakota reservation in South Dakota.
I am very sad that one man with an agenda is taking this building away from the Philadelphia Scouting cause. My grandfather died in 1993, believing that he had left his beloved Scouts with a building that would live on for decades to serve generations of children.
Now a mere 15 years later, the Scouts are losing it. This is a tragedy for the Philadelphia Boy Scouts and for my family. This doesn't sound legal, since the U.S. Supreme Court has declared that the Boy Scouts have a Constitutional right to make their own policies.
The Philadelphia Scouts would not be allowed to go against national Boy Scout policy. It is ridiculous for the city of Philadelphia to ask them to do so. - Maria West Granddaughter of Harry and Catherine Kuch
