   About Clay Cumbie
A roll of duct tape, a vacuum cleaner, and a microphone may sound like a Macgyver tool kit to most, but to Clay Cumbie, it was his first mic stand. “In all seriousness, I love music, always have, and can’t see myself doing anything else.” A self-taught guitarist, Cumbie grew up listening to everyone from Jim Croce to John Mayer. "I really admire their music and writing," Cumbie remembers. "They have had such a huge influence on the way I write songs." By the time he was a teenager, Cumbie was playing in various local clubs and honing his own songwriting craft. Eventually the Cumbie family moved to Columbia, MO. A vibrant college town filled with the love for the arts and music. As a High School student Cumbie balanced his love for music and baseball. "Eventually I was forced to make a decision between baseball and music," Cumbie says. "As much as I enjoyed playing baseball, I knew music was calling me to a different stage.” Leaving home at the age of 19, Cumbie made his way to Nashville to pursue his dream of superstardom. Barely four years later, Cumbie has made a home with Big Loud Shirt Industries, a top independent publishing company run by veteran songwriter/producer Craig Wiseman. In 2008 Cumbie became the flagship artist for Wiseman’s 1111 Music House. Shortly after his first release with the label, Cumbie was invited to join college circuit phenom Corey Smith on tour. “Being on the road with Corey and his crew was great, I’ve always enjoyed Corey’s music so it was a great opportunity for us and a lot of fun” With no plans of slowing down, Cumbie intends to hit the road hard in 2008. “I want to play anywhere and everywhere that I can, I love all of this and cant wait to see where the road takes me.” To find out more about Clay and his music please check out www.claycumbie.com and www.myspace.com/claycumbie. You will never look at a vacuum the same way.
