Welcome...
Thanks for checking out my page, and if you’re wondering what that music is playing, that’s The Jynx. Stick around, and you’ll hear more about that. If you’re so intrigued that you must hear more, check out the web site at TheJynxMusic.com. And now... more about me:
Music
I sing and play guitar in the aforementioned band, The Jynx. We’re a local NYC band starting to make a buzz around town. We first got together a couple years ago under the name According to Wendy, but it has only been lately that we "discovered" our sound. For a while we did alot of not-traditional reggae, and then we somehow got into a punk-ish rock phase. And to keep up with the extreme changes, the next step was acoustic. Throughout it all, we continued to write strong songs, no matter what genre. Currently, our style ranges from indie rock to reggae to pop, with alot more thrown in. Our influences range quite a bit.
Of course, the BEST way to experience The Jynx is by checking out one of our shows. Be sure to check the website for updates and future show announcements. And while you’re there, sign up on the Mailing List and we will automatically keep you updated with all the happenings. And no, we will never share your email address with anyone, no matter how much the beg and plead.
Web Design
I am also a freelance web designer, something I fell into almost 10 years ago while discovering the mighty internet. I was a late bloomer to the internet, but when I finally got a chance to check it out, I was immediately curious as to how websites were made. I always liked some form of art while growing up, mainly lettering, or commercial arts as they called it. After seeing websites and the potential within, I got a hold of Photoshop and started chipping away at it. I’ve never taken a course; completely self-taught, although I frequent Google for searches on good tutorials now and then. Back in the day I bought some books, but this industry grows way too fast for books. It’s much better to cross-reference the reliable tutorials and help sites out there, than to buy an expensive book that will sit on your shelf forever.
After years of building my experience with personal website projects, sites for friends, and various graphic and web design jobs, I eventually made it into New York, the town I had been planning on living in since I was a little kid. Originally from the area, I always knew it was the place for me, so I finally packed up my bags and set up shop, so to speak. I had a job as a graphic/web designer at a small company in midtown, where I learned all about CSS (Cascading Stylesheets), and soon I was designing and building professional, corporate websites. After a few years there, I took a job with a large travel consortium as the in-house designer, responsible for all graphic design, front-end coding, and online marketing. There was much to do and much to learn, and after a couple of years I decided to go strictly freelance.
