2007 is a milestone year for Chicago, the legendary rock ’n’ roll band with horns. Well known for extraordinary creativity, influential musicianship and staggering commercial success, Chicago now celebrates its 40th Anniversary – a show of longevity rarely achieved in most careers, let alone the music business.
Starting in 1967, well before all the hits started flowing, Chicago established a reputation for its powerful live show. Fueled by a passion for music, Chicago’s members exploded the conventions of what rock music could or should be. The result was a ground-breaking new form, played by extraordinarily talented musicians. Early fans like Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin were sufficiently impressed - they took the group out on their respective tours. Once the group began making records, fans rewarded the group with record sales of 100,000,000, 20 Top 10 hits, 5 number one albums, 5 Number One singles, and 5 Gold singles. To date, Chicago is the only American band to chart Top 40 albums in five decades – a landmark accomplishment.
The Very Best Of Chicago: Only The Beginning Chicago's expansive catalogue continues to be “Feelin' Stronger Every Day” with Rhino's ongoing upgrade and expansion of their repertoire. In honor of the legendary group's 1967 formation in the Second City, the latest addition to Chicago's musical bounty is the hit-packed THE BEST OF CHICAGO: 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION, a career-spanning, 2CD anthology presenting thirty newly remastered songs chronicling almost forty years of their creative evolution.
The most comprehensive double-disc Chicago collection to date, the title pulls favorites from their landmark 1969 debut LP Chicago Transit Authority through Rhino's 2006 release Chicago XXX (the group's first album of new material in a decade). Offered at a great value price, the retrospective also features new liner notes by veteran music writer Bill DeYoung, with cover art and internal graphics conceived by a fan whose submission was selected through an Internet-based contest overseen by Rhino and Chicago.
XXX Chicago's 30th album, their first in ten years, introduces 13 new studio tracks ranging from signature ballads to funked-up grooves to solid rockers, including the lead single "Feel."
The Box The only boxed set covering their entire 36-year career. Produced with Chicago’s involvement, this massive collection gathers over 100 songs on five CDs. It features hit singles, classic album cuts, band favorites, and three previously unreleased tracks from the fan-requested Stone Of Sisyphus project. A bonus DVD contains rare 1972 concert performances and a promotional film for Chicago XIII. Extensive liner notes include two essays, detailed track-by-track analysis, and a ton of archival photos.
