Taking their name from a character in the film The Goonies, Sweden's Chester Copperpot got their start in 1990 and spent the next three years going through a handful of vocalists.
By 1993, the lineup was settled with guitarist Fredrik Karlsson taking on microphone duties while bassist Niklas Aldén and drummer Christian Sjögreen made up the rhythm section. Musically, the trio looked up to the influences of '80s new wave and power pop with a theme of just wanting to have fun. With Dolores Records releasing the EP Short Cuts and Poems and Short Stories in 1996, comparisons to the likes of Weezer and Superchunk followed before the three-piece signed to Pop Kid Records. The 7" EP Bittersweet Tunes followed in 1998. ~ Mike DaRonco
