Los Angeles flutist Charmian Callon performs with several groups, including Afrobeat Down (specializing in Fela Kuti covers), Fredalba (fronted by actor Eric Balfour), and Black Shakespeare & the King Rockers, and she has recorded with Egyptian Lover, Tom Burbank, and Omid.
She formed her own label, Black Ocean Music, to release her debut solo recording, The Funky Flute EP, on June 12, 2007, a disc combining original compositions with a cover of Radiohead's "Karma Police." ~ William Ruhlmann
