The Charleston Sound Machine (C.S.M.) is a Chicago-based band that blends an eclectic mix of rock, blues, and pop influences to create diverse musical compositions. With an infectious sound that spans genres and decades, the band’s main focus is to perform and share their music with the masses and continue to write new music without compromising their musical beliefs.
As it now exists, The C.SM. was formed at Eastern Illinois University in 2000, but childhood friends Jeff Pahati (vocals and guitar) and Tim Piatek (Drums, Percussion & Piano) have been playing in bands together since junior high school and are the founding members of the C.S.M. What started as a club band in the little college town of Charleston, IL, the C.S.M. has transformed into a 6-piece combo that has certainly grasped the attention of all that appreciate good music.
After graduating college in 2001, the band moved back home to Chicago and concentrated on playing clubs and venues in the Chicago-land area. The C.S.M. have shared the stage with national acts Violent Femmes (GlenFest),Blue Oyster Cult (Naperville Ribfest) and have performed at respected Chicago-land establishments/events such as Martyrs’, Abbey Pub, Durty Nellies (New & Old), Arlington Park’s Party in the Park, Taste of chicago, Chicago Auto Show, Various Chicago Street festivals and countless corporate events, weddings and private parties. The Charleston Sound Machine strives to conquer new venues and build their already growing fan base.
The band has toured relentlessly the past couple of years and is set to release their highly anticipated sophomore album the fall of 2008. Their debut album Kings of Our Little World came out in December of 2004. The 10-song ep was engineered by Joe Dillilo at Solid Sound Studios (Material Issue, Smoking Popes) and mastered by Mike Lyons at Lyonshead Mastering (Cheap Trick). The album features an array of different musical styles. Combining percussive beats, aggressive guitar riffs and catchy hooks in songs such as “Lobsterbush,” “Gypsy Queen,” and “Lust,” Kings of Our Little World is nothing but addictive. The band is also well-know for taking an obscure popular song such as Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long,” Madonna’s “Like a Prayer,” Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around,” and adding their twist on the songs which have become fan cult favorites.

Glad I found you. I'm back in Minnesota after a fun weekend of LilFest in Evanston and sloggying around in the rain. Best part, playing with Michi and her violin. Hope you're in the vacinity the next time.
Here are a couple of new spots we did that are featured on VIMBY. com. If you or someone you know wants and would be a good fit for VIMBY, let me know and we can try to shoot a video spot.
Come on out to The Clearwater Theater in West Dundee, IL.
