Who I'd like to meet: Jesus, of course!!! and David the #1 Worship Leader of all time!!
I just accidentally discovered a new feature at the http://www.soth.org/ website that may be of interest to friends of Chapel West.
If you click on any of the calendar items on the Shepherd of the Hills home page, you can not only arrange for an email reminder to yourself, but you can also invite other people to the event.
Looks like we're using mychurchevents.com to provide this functionality. Handy.
The Duck & the Devil . There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods; but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. . As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head and killed it. He was shocked and grieved! In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile; only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing. . After lunch the next day Grandma said, "Sally, let's wash the dishes" But Sally said, "Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen." Then she whispered to him, "Remember the duck?" So Johnny did the dishes. . Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grandma said, "I'm sorry but I need Sa lly to help make supper." Sally just smiled and said, "Well that's all right because Johnny told me he wanted to help" She whispered again, "Remember the duck?" So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help. . After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's; he finally couldn't stand it any longer. . He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug and said, "Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you." . Thought for the day and every day thereafter? . Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done... And the devil keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.) ...whatever it is...You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing. He has seen your wh
The new pastor, Kevin Austin, is a powerful, gutsy speaker! His first message was before two packed chapels "Celebrating the Triumphal Homecoming" of 36 year-old Tony Trujillo. His second message, and first Sunday sermon addressed the conundrum of why Jesus chose to restore the life of the widow's only son, but left other widows in sorrow. Obviously Pastor Kevin is willing to address difficult subjects in a timely manner with Scripturally sound, comforting answers!
How exciting to preview a newly composed song! Loved the meaningful words, plus it was very singable. Understand that Rick also composed a song for Chapel East on Sunday. What talented worship teams SOTH has! Makes you wonder why everyone doesn't come to our church--we are cutting edge in a user friendly format!
Hey Chapel West Gang! Just wanted to say it was great to be with you all this weekend and look forward to many fun times ahead. Can't wait to be back with all of you here in a few weeks.
How exciting -- our new assistant pastor and family (Pastor Kevin, Aldebaran and 3 yr old Hannah) will be on board June 1st. I can't wait to see what Christ has in store for us now!
Introducing the songs with the story behind them proves to be very powerful. Today's song, which was composed after the Katrina disaster, and used as an example of focusing on the glory of God during or following bad times, had the lady next to me in tears of confirmation. Had she just heard the song, I don't think she would have been so touched!
We’re delighted to announce that Kevin Austin has been called to be Assistant Pastor of Shepherd of the Hills. Please pray for him & his family and for our church as we prepare to receive him as Assistant Pastor.
Whether you are playing the music of current artists, or old time hymns your zeal for Christ is beautiful to behold!
Will "Down the Via Dolorosa" be part of our Lenten Journey? Will there be trumpets at the Easter services? I pray no one is missing out on the musical richness of the Easter season!
I faced the fragility of life today as I drove into a church parking lot filled with trucks and choppers, then walked into a sanctuary filled with men; young men; tatooed men, men wearing do-rags, men with 'righteous one' embroidered on their denim vests.
The mourners were there honoring the life of a 26 year old colleague and friend, and the turn out was awesome!
One of the burly linemen stood up and said, "we know that all things work for good for those that love God." I prayed that the young men present that did not know Jesus would be touched by His love, and that this would be part of the "good" from that verse.
The pastor touched upon the question of 'why' this had happened to some one so young, but stressed the fact that Troy was now in a place of bliss, a place without struggles, time constraints or pain, in the presence of the Lord for all eternity. Considering the crowd, P.O.D.'s song "I Feel So Alive" would have been a most appropriate witness... I've often thought that P.O.D.'s song should be right up there with "Amazing Grace" as a funeral regular as we surely won't be shy about how great being with Christ is! "I Can Only Imagine" is a song with the same thought, just a bit more staid, and I am sure our Lord used it to touch hearts.
Thank you Joel for using your musical gift on behalf of Troy's family!
.: i love this band!! they rock! they're part of the reason i wake up 6 am every sunday morning!! i think that tall mexican brown boy is cute!! whether he's playing drums or guitar :):.
