1983-1987 Trained as a chorister and soloist with several choral societies.Unleashed on a bloody great big cymbal right at the end of something or other.Carefully trained in the art of smiling like a wee cherub whilst singing cheesy lyrics from "the shows".
1988-1990 Member of the rock n roll revival band "The Void" and quite possibly the worst drummer in the world.Delight in making great big crashing noises and generally behaving like a demented banshee.Band expands to something bigger and we all fall out when it is decided the band be called "the Bunions".I quit/get the push (depending on who you speak to).
1991 Abandon drums (because i was crap). Record and release "Seven Tenths Wet/Boule de Suif" material produced by Steve Adams and become a bit of a minor celebrity.Stuff featured in John Peel archive filed under "Only play on air if the bomb goes off".Commence solo gigs.
1992 Put together short lived backing group "Mother Savage" featuring ex-Void bass player Andy Sale.Broke it up again because they put us on gigs with thrash bands anyway.Folk/rock officially "uncool".
1993 Folk/rock still uncool.Join Christian rock band "Manna".Everything rather splendid.Long held residence at much missed BOLT HOLE CLUB In Tamworth.Spend long periods of time in the back of an old transit van.Lots and lots and lots and lots of gigs.Also play shows as part of Hewins,Hewins,Dukes and Bloemsa.Uncool folk/rock,even in christian music,but we enjoy ourselves.
1994 Manna split up.Drummer goes to university,bassist goes to Australia.Realise my body odour problem must be really bad.HHDB very busy indeed.
1993-1996 Musician for hire in the world of Christian worship music.Play with some quite famous people.Work very hard and flake out after non stop schedule.Decide to quit HHDB in a feeble attempt to stay sane.
1997 Diagnosed with Schizophrenia.Go a bit nuts and wind up in hospital.Dark times a bit slow in going away.
1998-2004 Resume showing up in folk clubs.Result !.Folk not quite so uncool anymore.Play all over the place,mostly alone.One and only gig with Steve Smith,former musical cohort from Tamworth (he of "void/the bunions" heritage).Enjoy plenty of wholesome jams with singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist John Neal.
2005 Release "Fat Boris presents Chief Spitting Feathers" produced by John Neal.Me quite popular again !.Shame i had to go completely bananas before the records started selling.Classical composer Andrew March drafts orchestrations to three songs from the album. 2006 "Feathers" quite a success,notable people very keen.Gigging in folk clubs for the first half of the year and then decide to rest.Briefly part of a very loud steaming rock band until schedule forbade it,have a great deal of fun.
2007(thus far) Commence work on new disc following a small number of gigs.Nicely oiled !,now to the job in hand !.Folk/rock not quite so uncool.Yippee !.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dave is currently working on the instrumental album "Blood-y-Nora".DDD also features James Starbuck and Dhan Iain plus the occasional link up with lead axeman Eric Rankin and bassist Andy Stubbs.Diane is silly enough to marry him in September this year and they hope to live happily ever after with their persian cat who is a bit bad tempered.
Stay away from drugs,please practice safe sex and try to look after the planet.Thats it,rant over.Oh,and you aint too big to get on your knees and pray once in a while.Make sure you are registered to vote and avoid fundamentalism like the plague.
