Chad Laughing plays sad, quiet, acoustic tunes – the emotional kind that speak of heartache and the human condition on a realistic level. Luckily for his loyal following fan base, he inserts incredibly comedic, real-life stories, jokes and banter in between. Like every good performer should, Chad makes sure his set will leave you with the satisfied feeling that usually only comes from a fantastic first date or the greatest romantic comedy you’ve ever seen.
“My favourite musical act in Toronto, because he makes me laugh ... Chad Laughing!”
Molle Dorst, Oct 29, 2006
The songs are acoustic – quiet and sad. Emerging from the ashes of folk-rock band City Folk, Chad Laughing’s new songs are a mixture of city and country – a result of moving from the suburbs to the bustling metropolis of downtown. "I, like most people in North America live in the centre of a huge city. With this solo project I wanted to get away from the rootsy, folky sound of my past projects and move toward something a little more sophisticated," explained Laughing.
Chad Laughing forms the complete 'band.' He is currently putting together a collection of musicians to support him for various performances around the city.
Following the break up of both City Folk and a long-term relationship, Chad decided that he was ready for something new. So, he sent an e-mail to Jack Devine who had produced Matt Nathanson's first release. "I've been a huge fan of Matt Nathanson for a long time and I also really liked Jack's solo record. Jack had been great to work with on the City Folk album as a consultant, and I felt strongly about our ability to work together,” said Laughing.
Certain songs on the album have been co-written by Jack and Chad with others being a project between Chad and his long-time friend Jay Davis.
As a solo act, Chad Laughing has played with acts such as We Are the Take, Ory No’Man Too, Cassie MacDonald, Danielle Duval, Signe Miranda, Mandippal Jandu, Maneli Jamal, Elissa Mielke and Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker.
Chad’s EP release party will be in benefit of the Regent Park School of Music - funding music lessons for youth in the Regent Park community.
What's next: The EP Intimacy & Isolation will be released April 2007 followed quickly by a California tour in May.

Oh, I don't know, getting a little tired of America in general - so much corruption! I found a little room in a house up in Humboldt - I'm going to retreat from big social situations and try to spend my time writing and making art, preparing for the next big event... I'm sure one day this will lead me to Canadia - Of course we'll both be rich and famous by then and we can put on the best fucking rock opera about any old alley we want ; )
that is way too large of a question.. let me see. I'm sort of in the process of moving. left my place in the city : ( no more SF for me. I'm up near the border right now scouting out resources. Just saw into the wild and it makes me wanna fuck it all and hit the road. What are you up to? Got a record deal yet?
