Here are JD (bass), SW (drums) and me (DC) jamming in my home studio. It's a song you might know.
Samuel & David
Hi! We're Samuel and David (DC) Cardwell and below is some of our Gypsy Swing (or Manouche Jazz, or Django Stuff, or whatever you want to call it).
We've only been playing this sort of thing for a couple of years (not even), and only as an amusing diversion, so we don't claim anything in the way of technique. We just try and go for the swing and the dynamics and melodicism. We don't know any of those fancy Django arpeggios or anything like that. And we have all our fingers, so no excuse really! Django only had two and a bit on his left hand!
See the clip of the real Django in the "favourite videos" section of DC's profile. Guitarists... prepare to die!
The rest of the time we like to play rock and roll, sea shanties, Chinese folk songs, chess, CDs, LPs, mp3s, Worms, EA FIFA soccer, with lego, table tennis, the fool, DVDs, tig... the list does indeed go on.
If you want to check out my own music, just go to my music profile, where you can hear some of my deep and meaningless songs, as well as the infamous "Tom Song":
Here's a song that I recorded with the young Australian singer Deanna Wesson. Visit her profile at myspace.com/deannawesson to hear some of her own songs - I don't think you'll be disappointed. While you're there, add her as a friend and say hi to her! She's young and very talented and destined for great things!
I produced and recorded this version of "Revved Up", and played all the instruments. The superb lead vocals are by Deanna.
The song was intended for a tribute album to 90s Chicago band Triple Fast Action. Click on the link and give the project a bit of encouragement, as I think it may just have stalled a little recently! Over there you can hear some actual Triple Fast Action tracks as well as my own very rough demo of Revved Up, which I banged out to give myself an ida of the tune and chords. It speeds up shockingly and I'm quite ashamed of it. I guess it's the first DC Cardwell bootleg!
Slightly better is the other song here, my version of "Yeah", also destined for the T3FA tribute if it ever comes to pass. In the meantime, I kinda like the idea of these two songs on an old-fashioned vinyl 45. I think it would be a hit in an alternate universe.
You make musical magic together...Your playing is seamless & perfectly matched! I was so pleased to hear these wonderful guitar duets and thanks so much, for sharing all the videos with your audience... --Happiest Harmonies from Eve in NY
Thanks for your comment, DC! Didn't mean to depress anybody... But if you trash one of your guitars hopefully you won't choose the beautyful one you play in the vids with your son! Honest: These guitars look and sound fantastic. Even when briefly miked up in an ordinary room they still sound more natural than any farting piezo-sound.
And please stick to the way you guys play them! Seems like this sort of music works well without all the rapid arpeggios Django played - as long as it is played relaxed and with ease.
