Baritone saxophonist, turned jazz singer, turned songwriter, turned...???
Here is me singing my song, "Marche de l'amour" with Nick Sweet on Trombone, and "Skylark" at Maggie Scott's Vocal Jazz Series at Berklee. Please enjoy!
Hailing from the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers of St. Louis, Missouri, people often suggest that I am the real-life love child of my father, an avant-garde jazz sax player and my mother who has a beautiful voice and talent for writing.
I was raised with listening to my father play in blues bands around town, jazz radio and millions of songs from his personal collection. Being brought up with heavy helpings of jazz and the down home blues of St. Louis, I was naturally drawn to the piano and saxophone as my first instruments and have been greatly influenced by them in my singing. As I started singing regularly in high school, I also began exploring my passion for writing lyrics and composing.
I am currently studying vocal performance and songwriting at Berklee College of Music in Boston. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Cara, Just listening to "Marche..." Nice. I wanna hear more of that. Great band too. You have a strong sense of style. Don't lose it, it's a good thing. And let me encourage the experimentalism. I have roots there too. I love creative exploration. Much more interesting than the same old same old. Make lots of good music. I seem to remember you were good, are good, at that. Thanx, ~~bp
Keep an eye out for shows. Let me know when you can make a STL show, or a Chicago show when we start doing those in a few months. Glad you approve, Cara. ~Phil
OH MY GOD YOU WERE BRILLIANT TONIGHT! You have such an amazing energy, a freshness about you, and an unapologetic rawness that I am so impressed by. I was riveted during your whole performance. GOD. I feel so honored to share the stage with you, and am especially proud to have done my last gig in Boston with you. You are amazing. Just AMAZING. You'll go far, my dear, if you just keep doing what you did tonight. I am definitely a fan!!!
Hi there! You are very welcome for the add, and the kind words, and thank you as well! I'm glad to be your friend, and I hope you have a great day! Please keep in touch! ~Your Friend Always~ *Starr*
Hey! I miss you too, here in the beautiful mountains. Theatre is fun but a completely different kind of magic as you know. Playing the same thing over and over is hard... anyway I'll be in Boston for about 10 days starting 8. 26, should we jam one last time?
Yo Cara, been checkin out the tunes. I'm excited for the show! I think I'll be back on the 30th of July. I'll let you know for sure in a couple days. Thanks again, hope things are wonderful for you.
Hi Cara! Thank you so much for the kind words! We have a cafe show Monday, the 28th, so that would be a good opportunity to check out our music. I'll create a facebook event later today. By the way, do you have any gigs lined up? I miss your voice as well:)
