    samYam's Interests
GeneralSpending as much time with my wife and kids, extreme metal music, studying and walking the Buddhist path.

MusicAll forms of extreme metal really as long as it doesn't suck... I like some other music but you'll never get me to admit most of it...

Particular bands I like are Black Sabbath, Brodequin, Rotten Sound, Broken Hope, Carcass, Cryptopsy, Eternal Ruin, Exhumed, Houwitser, Incantation, Immersed In Blood, Impaled, Immolation, Lehavoth, Morbid Angel, Mortician, Malignancy, Misery Index, Nevermore, Ozzy Osbourne, Pyaemia, Sanctuary, Slayer, old Sepultura, Strapping Young Lad, Suffocation, Suture, Teratism (MA) RIP, Vader, Vital Remains, Visceral Bleeding, Wicked Innocence, Wasteform, Coffin Birth, The Blue Man Group, Dave Matthews Band, The Cure, Peter Gabriel, The Police, Leonard Cohen, YES, Wolfmother, Dream Theatre, SOAD, Santana, Live, Weird Al Yankovic and more...

This video below is from a Leukorrhea Show in 2004. It's part of a series that includes the whole concert. It was a send off show for one of our bandmates who was just entering Boot camp. Since then he has done his 4 years and is now out of the military.
MoviesKundun, Little Buddha, Walk The Line, Ray, Boondock Saints, The Dead Series (George Romero), Lord Of The Ring Trilogy, The Harry Potter Series, Troy, Super Troopers, Harold and Kumar Go To Whitecastle, V Is For Vendetta, I Am Legend, Transformers, Seven Years In Tibet, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Neverending Story and tons of others that could take me a week to list here
TelevisionI don't watch to much TV unless it's a UFC event, football, baseball or the show Heroes (which is probably the best show on right now). Most stuff on TV is garbage anyway, it's all negativity and shows how gross reality can sometimes be. If I do watch it I'll try and catch Whose Line Is It Anyway or some other comedy style show. I don't like "reality" TV except Fear Factor. There really hasn't been any good scripted shows lately except Heroes like I already mentioned or the original CSI is good too. Again, TV stinks, I prefer listening to music over TV any day!
BooksAnything by James Patterson, Dean Koontz, Anne Rice, Jonathan Kellerman... I like a few classics like Homer's The Iliad, Dante's Divine Comedy. Like I mentioned elsewhere in my profile I have been reading alot of Buddhist books and websites, etc such as books written by Thich Nhat Hahn, Jack Kornfield, Thubten Chodron. Reading is good, shut the TV off, put the stereo on and read a damned book already!
HeroesThe US Military. I have the utmost respect for anyone that volunteers to serve the country, knowing full well that they may be called up to fight in war and put their lives on the line. That is true bravery and everyone should look up to these brave men and women. If you see a soldier THANK THEM!!!
Alot of people can't understand why, being a buddhist, I hold the men and woman of our military in such high regard. Yes they are "fighting" and "shooting people" but this is all done in a compassionate manner to protect the people they love, and that is the American public. Not only do they protect us with their selfless actions (yes I said selfless, they were not drafted so they signed on willingly) but they do help other's as well. We may or may not agree on this issue but I believe if it were not for our military personnel we would not enjoy the freedoms we take for granted in this present day and age. And I do not intend to argue with anyone on the issue, it is how I feel about it and that's that.

About me:
I'm a 34 year old man, dude, bloke, misfit or whatever else you choose. I am married to my great and wonderful wife Leah. We just hit our fourth year anniversary, although we've been together for eight years total. The nature of relationships is basically, you have to work at them, they just don't work themselves out. We have a great relationship. Although we are very different we are very much the same person at heart and constantly support each other in our endeavors. I have two great kids, Xena (12 years old) and Alex (4 years old) and Colin (4 months old). I never thought I would have kids, but having them now I could never imagine not having them. Both of them bring a happiness to my life that I have never experienced before. They also bring out the kid in me which is kinda fun sometimes....

I am one of the founding members of Leukorrhea, a death metal band based out of MA. We got together since 2000 and recorded a couple full length cd's, some split cd's, been on various compilations, a tribute CD to the band DEATH and have played countless shows as well as a full US tour a couple years back. We are working on new material and getting back out there, it's been three long years!

I like surfing the net and checking out new stuff. Lately I've become an avid player of Second Life. I am a graphic designer by trade and currently work in a great up and coming design company called Pilotage Inc. I've been there a short time but thoroughly enjoy the work, it's what I had hoped to do for some time now.

I started studying Buddhism about 2 years ago. It felt like something was missing from my life and for whatever reason, the middle path opened for me. I am still a novice when it comes to the technical aspects of the Buddha's teachings. But, the core of the teachings-- kindness, generosity and compassion are very simple to understand. The key is putting them into play and sticking to them, that's where the practice comes into play. And I could use plenty of practice. I seriously lack a meditation schedule and could use some major help with that, there aren't many (if any at all) teachers in my direct area. Books help alot and so do videos, but I could really use a guide. I hope and pray that one day one will appear. Until then though, I will practice, practice and practice some more.

I've been trying to become active in volunteer situations when I am able. Currently I am working on a re-designed website for a local chapter of Habitat For Humanity. It's coming along great and the staff is excited to finally be able to promote this new image. I also just started getting involved in the Prison Dharma Network. What I am doing is writing letters to a prisoner who is very much in his infancy of Buddhist practice, like myself. The PDN has offered to send us both the same reading materials so we can discuss it via letter. So far it's been fun and I look forward to staying in contact with the person I have been.

I am just a guy trying to have some fun, help a few people and raise some awareness on issues I think ought to be raised. Have fun while you're here and feel free to leave comments and interact!

First let me say that you have a beautiful family and let me thank you for joining with me in friendship~ and wishing you a fantastic summer! ~~~
This season take some time to concentrate on something that you really want for yourself that won't hurt anyone or anything else but will enhance your atman (inner self) or personal prosperity. Focus on manifesting just that without pressuring yourself with goals or timeframe, just merely set a direction. Then sit back and watch your dreams blossom in the Here-and-Now ॐ Sit back and say, "I am That I am".....
