Formerly called Scarecrow, Blood Red Squid formed in Mobile, AL in 2002, releasing their debut album Planet Earth! Dance Party! soon after that. They quickly garnered a large hometown fanbase, playing to throngs of lyric-shouting maniacs. In 2003, they moved to Auburn, AL to do school or something. After a few years of experimentation and playing to the Auburn crowd, the guys finished school and moved back to where it all began. In the summer of 2006, BRS began writing and recording their sophomore album. They finished Shapes in January 2007 and have been performing various shows to promote it since.
Blood Red Squid employs numerous hardware devices and software applications to perform their music. Hardware includes M-Audio Axiom MIDI controllers, a Yamaha DTXPRESS III electronic drumset (as a MIDI controller), a Casio DG-20 electronic guitar MIDI controller, M-Audio MIDI and audio interfaces, and various vocal effect processors.
