liza's Interests
|
| General | Here's a mind-bending example of my interests and activities :
Activism, Blogs, Social Networks, Politics, Net Art, Photography, Feminism, Food Allergies, Gluten-Free Wheat-Free and Egg-Free Cooking, Homeopathy, Tantra, Yoga, Acupuncture, Alternative Medicine, Travel, Gadgets, Technology, Internet Politics, Cheese, Environmental Justice, Civil Rights Law, Net Neutrality, Digital Ethnorati, Hyperlocal Journalism, Makeup, Spa Treatments, Panties and Shoes ... always panties and shoes. | | Music | Eclectic, like my interests but mostly Latino Rock --Cafe Tacuba, La Ley, Jarabe de Palo, Juanes, Puya, etc. | | Movies | Too many to put in one place, but can I have a witness for A History of Violence? | | Television | As the MILF that I am, I watch waaaay too much Nickelodeon and I have to admit, it's a guilty treat with : Avatar - The Last Airbender, Ned's Declassified, The Fairly OddParents and The Xs.
I also catch the biggest MILF of them all, Janice Dickinson's Modeline Agency (OMG! Girl Crush).
Lurvs me some Ugly Betty too and I have to admit I am marvelled at the 'normality' of The Girls Next Door. | | Books | Too many but there's 3 books that are indeed seminal : One Hundred Years of Solitude which I read before I read El Quijote. These two books I have read many times in my life , at least 5-6 times each.
Yet, the one book that I just was astounded at why it had taken me so long to read was Huckleberry Finn. I cannot tell you how my eyes always well-up when I think of the scene where Huck chooses hell if it meant saving the "nig**r" that was more than a friend, but his family. | | Heroes | Flame me for admitting to this but my recent heroes are women successful in business and entertainment. I love Oprah. I am in awe of Marth Stewart and I have a crush on Janice Dickinson (WTF, sue me).
Political Heroes? Rosa Parks? Hell yeah. Cecilia Thunder Fire? Absolutely. And the french philosophere Sarah Kofman, always has a big, huge freaking chunk of my heart. Anybody who could write about philosophy and language the way she did always has my admiration. That reminds me, Julia Kristeva for her Revolution in Poetic Language. Hilda Hilst for showing me what sex looks like in words. For the pornography, I'll go to Anne Rice and Anais Nin.
Oh! And the two women who taught me, and I mean that literally, how to write : Puerto Rican poet Loreina Santos Silva and Puerto Rican writer, Ana Lydia Vega. I owe my blogdivaness to them.
Men? Nietzsche has to do a lot with my writing but so did Michel de Montaigne and that mulatto for all ages, Alexandre Dumas. Add el Gabo (Garcia Marquez), Julio Cortazar, Mark Twain and Gilles Deleuze and you'll understand a lot of my writing.
I've always been inspired by Lula, the president of Brazil, I have a thing for the techno-dictator called Steven Jobs and Al Gore has stolen my heart these days with this Inconvenient Truth campaign. And the usual suspects, MLK, Malcom X, Ghandi, and Pedro Albizu Campos, siempre. |
