"Given our rather unhealthy penchant for all things heavy, Rock Midgets' ear is immediately drawn to Blakfish, with their classy offering 'Preparing For Guests' coming across like a blood stained, carnivorous version of Fall of Troy." -
rockmidgets.com

"It's heartening to see good ol' fashioned DIY ethics infiltrating their way back into rock music, and to see the bands at the center of it start to get a bit of a following across the country (and beyond). Big Scary Monsters continue the trend by bringing us Birmingham's fresh faced noisenkis Blakfish, an exciting proposition if ever there was one. Fantastic in name and sound, 'Jermey Kyle Is A Marked Man' underpins mini-album 'See You In Another City' perfectly with its skewed rhythms, gut-wrenching energy and satisfying choruses. The next minute they're instructing you to 'Make Your Bed And Lie In It' and be warned, by the end of the song you'll be wishing you had!" - 8/10
Rock Sound

"Birmingham's Blakfish have been around for ages but they used to be rubbish. Now they're brilliant."
NME

"The tightness of Blakfish's eccentric high-energy offbeat stop-start hardcore is an intoxicating blend of elemental forces, with reggae breakdowns and hip hop interludes lightening the mood amidst scalding, paint stripping riot rock topped by alternately melodic and throat-ripping raging vocals. For fans of Converge, Spy vs. Spy, Mogwai, Fugazi and At the Drive In, this is the sound of intelligent intensity with serious musicianship and a unique party vibe, so cheer up kids, Blakfish are here... life's not so bad!"
Salvo magazine

"Bring your earplugs and don't bring your parents! Blakfish are here and they want you to know it too. Here is something dynamic, explosive, aggresive and intense. With time signatures bouncing around like drunken teenagers on a trampoline, and vocals to make even your own throat hurt. This band will change your life."
Birminghamusic.com

"I'd suggest catching them live, listen to their MySpace tracks, buy Gold, do anything to catch them now. Worthy artists of the month. Any month."
Demos reviewed

"Blakfish are one of the most innovative and exciting acts you're likely to discover this year."
Subba-Cultcha.com

"Blakfish are one of the most important British bands of our time."
10 lives

"Blakfish's blowtorch-to-the-face – of – Mclusky hardcore ended up scaring every attendee. Proving Blakfish are certainly worth as much as any of their showmates, and this group should be watched, preferably up close and in the middle of a riot."
Play Music - Pickup

"Blakfish’s set goes swimmingly. The energetic punk-rockers reel in the crowd by fusing a range of interchanging melodies and rhythms, before the lead singer casts himself off the stage halfway through their final song."
Sandman Magazine

   About blakfish

We like to think we are a hard working band based in the midlands. With some help from friends we run our own company "ondryland". We have already nearly killed ourselves this year, completing almost a 5 week tour with Meet Me In St. Louis in January, then disgusting audiences in Ireland with Tubelord. We have so far destroyed 9 countries in Europe in less than 4 months. Between all this we have been recording our new record which we will be releasing in August.

We have been lucky enough to meet and play with these guys as well as many more; Spy Versus Spy, This Ain't Vegas, Rolo Tomassi, Meet Me In St. Louis, Marvins Revolt, Dartz!, This Town Needs Guns, Secondsmile, Charlottefield, Ack Ack Ack, Russian Circles, An Albatross, Mutiny On The Bounty, RX Bandits, SikTh, Enter Shikari, Marmaduke Duke, The Scare, DIE! DIE! DIE!, Citizens Here and Abroad, Oxford Collapse, Kid's In Glass Houses and You say Party! We Say die! to list a few. As well as playing at DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL '07 with loads of bands, good and bad a like.

Check blakfish.com or ondryland for more information. Thanks.

This is our latest release and our first on Big Scary Monsters. It is a lovely 5 track mini-album. The artwork is so good it even feels nice. Yours for the modest price of £6. Click to buy.

We are on this beautiful little 10" vinyl with some of our good friends Colour, Caesura, Minotaur Explode, The Defeat and My First Tooth. Click to buy.

We are also on this great 50 track mp3 cd with some of the greatest bands from all around the world, so it's worth buying. It's £4 or free when you buy another cd from either us or the Big Scary Monsters shop. Click to buy.

We self released 'GOLD' in October last year. It's got 3 tracks on it and us on the front, what more do you want for £4? Click to buy.

'MYFORTEISTIMETRAVEL' is an ancient relic from a time long forgotten, but we still have some copies so if you're into collecting old songs that bands don't play anymore make sure you get one! Although we are known to pull out the classics if you ask very politely. Click to buy.

the new album is just stunning.

simple as that.

the artwork and layout are amazing, and its still funny to see my name in there! much appreciated.

i think i've had it on repeat at least 20 times and its not moving for a good while.

the last track is pretty much perfect too.

could've done with a lyric sheet though.

i mean the cheek! are we supposed to just make the words up?!

Haha, thanks for the shameless promotion. I'm not coming on Thursday - I'm reviewing the Furthest Drive Home show, but you know that I tend to pop up places unannounced, so I'm sure you'll see me soon enough...

Did you know I'm working at Rock Sound now, btw? x
