About me: As long as I can remember I've been interested in music! I used to watch my brother Scott's Beatle records go 'round and 'round on his turntable for hours which led to me watching my Uncle Leonard's reel to reel tape recorder reels go 'round and 'round! I guess that would be a clue that I would be in the music business!
I started playing piano when I was 8 which continued on until my high school years. I studied jazz piano and have studied voice ever since then. While in college I studied music theory and composition.
Some time during my college years I decided I wanted to play music so I began my journey of lounges in Oregon, Washington and Idaho with my cover band called Coda! I had an opportunity to move to Los Angeles and work with Julian Raymond (Bang Bang on Epic Records) with his new project called Dear Mr. President (Atlantic Records).
While living in LA I worked with Buffalo native Jessie Galante (Fire) and Mike Guy (Shark Island) in their band. I did some sessions with drummer Gary Mallabar (Steve Miller Band) and got some private keyboard lessons from my mentor Claude Schnell (Dio)!
After I left Dear Mr. President I got a call from Dan Reed inquiring about my availability as record labels were about to sign his band, the Dan Reed Network. I flew back home to Portland, Oregon and prepared to audition. I actually didn't audition but I hung out a lot with the band and went back to LA! I came back to Portland a few weeks later and met Derek Schulman from Mercury/Polygram Records when Dan Reed informed me that I was in the band!
For the next 7 years I had the time of my life recording with Bruce Fairburn and Nile Rodgers, touring with the Rolling Stones and Bon Jovi, and meeting fans from all around the world! Many whom I keep in touch with today!
Since my Dan Reed Network days I spent a summer tour managing Suicidal Tendencies on Metallica's 1994 summer tour, I got signed to Epic Records with Dan Pred in our band called Slowrush (2000), played with the 80's band Animotion ("Obsession"), was the musical director for a television show in Portland called "Gimme the Mike", produced some albums, won the Portland Music Association Song of the Year award (1993), and played a bunch of gigs in the area and kept myself busy!
Recently I put together a band I call: Blake Sakamoto Presents: The Funk 'N' Roll Rockestra. It features myself, guitarist Eddie Martinez (Rod Stewart, Blondie, Robert Palmer), bassist Gary Fountaine (Nu Shooz), drummer Rob Nelson (Shock) and vocalist Joann Coleman (Gimme the Mike, Radio Disney). We just played to 60,000 people on July 4th in Vancouver, Washington. We invited our special guests Bill Wadhams (Animotion) and Tommy Heath (Tommy Tutone) to give the audience a very special surprise!
I have some very special projects that are in the pipeline including helping with Dan Reed's new album and working with my Funk 'N' Roll singer Joann Coleman on her upcoming album and tour!
I am always looking to re-establish contact with people who I have met in the past and establish contact with new people so don't be shy about saying "hello" if you feel it!
Thank you for your comments and messages! They mean the world to me!
Cheers!
Blake

Well, hello :) It seems that its time once again for a show at the Camellia. It's my favorite place around with tea infused cocktails and the best atmosphere ever (I sort of love tea). I would be terribly pleased if you could come. The show is Thursday the 3rd at 9pm in the Pearl at NW 11th and Glisan. Hope you can make it. -Kate
Beautiful Salem, Oregon! It's a good day to eat a reeces peanut butter cup and think very hard about weeding the flower beds after checking one more myspace profile...
New puppy pics now viewable on my album page. Blitzen is smart and sweet, good thing given the big paws he's following in!Sounds like the show was a success...sorry to have missed that. What's next?
Back from vacation and have puppy! Another week or so before I'll be marching him around, but can't wait to show him off. His name is Blitzen and his album is viewable on my album page!
Hi! I've got 2 shows coming up this week! I hope that you will be able to make it to one..or both :) Thursday I'm going to be playing The Side Door at 8pm. Hi B- I missed you at OHM Friday nite! I finally made it out and NO BLAKE! It was nice to see Dan and the music was awesome- so mellow. We still have to have that coffee! M
Thnks for You! And I think You are the kindest , real person, Its interesting How one person invisibly holds so much together, And everyone silently praises them,I can see that quality in You too! and You have a wonderful family, so warm~
I think that in the future as we run short on gas... We(humans) will center more on feelings like those than the old ones that hold back consciousness... Blessing You are! J~ I was thinking, When You played, "pray for rain",During the Show it rained flood status for a period of time . it was a full inch. it Seems Like God had Blessed that song as a prayer
Ambassador of Peace!Dan Reed Performance! Current mood: blessed Category: Music
The New Dan Reed Songs Are Moving and rhythmic, performed acoustically and Spiritually. He(Mr. ReeD)and the songs Are an Ambassadorial gesture toward all of us...
He has obviously done some serious Soul-Searching over creating this beautiful assortment of deep feeling melodies. the songs were simplistic Yet complex with His sure-fire delivery, this New album promises to be More than expected! A collection of songs that you can play for the whole family, still it has punch to knock your head off(peacefully of course)! wE left there with a sense of peace and fulfillment. To see this Man and the evolution/revolutionary peaceful music He makes... this is a blessing of the highest orders... IT made me feel closer to God,,,AND eVEN mORE FULL OF love... iS THAT POSSIBLE?? Ohh, this Will be released sometime in June/JulY 08/ LiquidMusicGroupLLC review by Soundsp@ce/Soundopoly
Hey Blake, you did a fabulous job organizing the show last night. Thanks so much for seeing to all of the little details and helping this 9-month pregnant lady be comfortable at the show.
I'm glad to be back in your space once again. I hope you can excuse my eternal absence, but a terrible accident almost took my life and kept me locked in a hospital for 2 months... but don't worry, I'm fine, and I'm BACK!!!!
thanks for the info Blake!, you know, The Dan Reed Network holds a special place in my heart, I'm glad Dan is coming to town, it will be good to see y'all again ; )

Dream as if you'll live forever...live as if you'll die today. RawK ON..... Have a productive week coming up :-)
You're right, we have been emailing and I was on your mailing list until one day I changed my address due to too much spam. This must have been some 10-12 years ago when the Internet was still a rather small community. In fact, back then it was you who had found my website mentioning my Dan Reed Network experience :-).
That again happened some 18 years ago, I still have the concert ticket from the Town & Country Club in London (1990) framed and a large DRN poster on my living room's wall.
18 years later and still happy memories, the music is timeless :-)
