Howdy! Grant "Big Smokey" Johnson here. I have played my guitar from the backwoods Honky Tonks of the Pacific Northwest to the stage of Nashville's Ryman Auditorium, the original home of the Grand Ol' Opry.
I am a musician based in Nashville, TN. I am currently playing guitar and dobro with Jon Langford's Fantastic Nashville Band, steel guitar with David Dewese, and a Christmas/Instrumental group called the Harold Angels. I also sub for: Heath Haynes & The High Dollars, Joshua Black Wilkins, Paul Burch & The WPA Ballclub, Travis Mann, Thad Cockrell, Brandon Giles, & James Haymer.
If you need a Lead Guitar, Pedal Steel, Dobro or Mandolin for your group or project, please contact me. I have just written an article about moving to Nashville for a great guitar magazine called THE FRETBOARD JOURNAL. Check it out at your favorite music store or newsstand.
In the Pacific Northwest I have played guitar, Dobro, and steel guitar for Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers, Pine Valley Cosmonauts), Christy McWilson (Hightone Records, The Picketts), The Model Rockets, Carolyn Mark, The Hank Williams Revue, The Quitters, Ruby Dee & The Snakehandlers, Marshall Scott Warner, Citizens Utilities, Bill Herzog, John Ramberg, Jerry Cohen, Dave Berner, and The Infant Kings as well as scored two feature length movies, a pilot for a Kids Television series picked up by CBC (Canada) and local commercials.
i read your article in Fretboard Journal a while back and thought it was really interesting-- i'm a 15 year old guitar player who loves early rock n' roll, blues, bluegrass, nashville country, and just about every other form of roots music
"Trouble in the henhouse" and "Giddy Up" are both awesome!
keep up the good work and the great guitar pickin!
Hi there Big Smokey first of all we'd like to say thanks for being our myspace pal. We wanted to make sure you knew the reason incase we suddenly vanish off of your friends list. The movement we've started for indie artists has grown significantly and consumes all of our time these days. We seldom sign into our myspace account and this is making several people believe that we are ignoring them. We are not ignoring anyone, we wanted everyone to know that. What we're doing has become so busy we just don't have the time for myspace any longer, so in all honesty we are probably going to just close our myspace account.
Many people wanted to use us in the future so if you were one of those people make sure you bookmark the link below so that in the event that we do close our myspace account you won't lose contact with us. I wish you the best of luck in your music career. Thanks again for being our myspace pal.

Howdy Grant! Thanks ever so much for the fine hospitality. It was great to share the stage with you at the 5-Spot. There is no substitute for playing with someone of your abilities. Hopefully we can do it again, sooner than later.
Big Smokey
Hey! Hope you are doing well. I'm in Key West right now......playing at the Hogsbreath......lost the voice last night, but with the help of a steroid shot....we will see what happens tonight!!?
Anyway, i'm hitting it hard in June and July.....in June i'll be on the road with Tommy Allsup of Buddy Holly fame. I made a little video about the tour and put it on youtube. You can see it here. July will find us in Key West for the Songs in the Sun festival. I've booked Shurman, Howard Livingston, and Danny White for the special concert on the water. It will be a party, and i'm inviting you now! I made a video for the festival as well. You can see it here. Anyway, take care and i hope you are doing well........Sincerely,
Kevin Montgomery..
How convenient for me that I work 2 blocks down and will be finishing up right around then. Hmm...maybe I can convince Lady Smokey to meet me down there.
The Wood Bros!! I forgot to insert their name in the potential-list last night. Am pursuing them hard and heavy...well, you know. ;) Thank-you for last night--love you both so very, very.
