| About Big Meat |
|
The sons of Scottish sausage packers, Big Meat formed in Glasgow in the early 80s as a skiffle-electro band before settling into their so-called "classic period" in the mid-80s, characterized by a progressive, 2-step, Hard House metal sound that revolutionized the airwaves and catapult the band to stardom. BM's first album, the self-titled debut "Big Meat", featured a single of the same name, which was the Christmas number one in 1986.
The band's second album, "When You Buy Ground Beef You're Getting Meat From Several Different Cows. This Is What Caused Mad Cow Disease To Be Easily Spread. At Least A Steak Is Only From One Animal", was something of a commercial disappointment, but it really showcased lead singer/songwriter Brendan McManus' growing ambitions and opium-inspired obsession with deconstructing the works of Zamfir. "YBGBYGMFSDCTIWCMCDTBESALASIOFOA" has since been critically reevaluated as a work on par with the Beach Boys' "M.I.U" or The Stones' "Dirty Work".
Due to infighting, drugs, and the bizarre appearance of a red vulture in the bus, the band disbanded after failing to mount a successful worldwide tour. Def Meat Recordings is planning on rereleasing the band's seminal double-live work, "Meat the Beatles/Beat the Meatles" in February of 2006 and a reunion show at Wembley Stadium is planned for 2007, though no one seems to have informed the band that Wembley was torn down years ago.
