Heroes
My Dad. And Alan Lomax.
And all local musicians trying to make it. Even if they suck.
My new blog, devoted to helping beginning and struggling musicians avoid the many mistakes and pitfalls of the music industry.
If you have a gig you would like me to post in my calendar, let me know. I go to a lot of local shows, so the chances are good that if I don't already know you, I may attend at least one of your shows.
I can't expect everyone to follow my lead, but if more local musicians would get off their asses and actually support local music, rather than just supporting their own bands, the Milwaukee scene would be a lot better than it is.
To everyone, I say, get out to a local show once in a while, and support local music in any way you can. Milwaukee has some extremely talented bands, and it hurts to see so many of them fall to obscurity just because of poor support from their home town. Milwaukee has a lot more to show than just Violent Femmes and the Gufs, so let's all do our part to get Milwaukee on the map.
And to all local bands that I'm not friends with, don't just try to add me and assume that I'll come to your shows. Send me a message and tell me about yourself. Be a real friend, not just a myspace friend. If you do this, I may bring a real friend or two to your show.
Check out my calendar for upcoming Milwaukee area shows.
