Bent Pussycat is a true Rock and Roll band. With influences like The Who, Sloan, Cheap Trick, Weezer, The Ramones, The Beatles, Green Day and other pioneers and masters of melody driven power rock, it's no wonder the band gains devotees no matter where in the world they are performing. The bands live show has an energy, attitude, and musicality that Rock and Roll has been missing for years. Audiences are mesmerized by the musicianship and captured by the hook driven melodic songs. The band appeals to listeners of all ages and genres. Their sound is more current then ever, Tom Cavanagh recently made a comment on radio saying the rest of the world has finally caught up to us with bands like Jet, The Strokes, The Hives and Fountains of Wayne having international success.
The band is from New York, however many other parts of the world now claim them as their own. The success of their first self-titled CD has been over whelming. With sales world wide thanks to the Internet, the band has been able to reach fans of "True Rock and Roll" from the largest cities of United States to the smallest towns of far off continents.
Bent Pussycat released their second cd STATIC in July 2004 and headed out on the road as opening act for Twisted Sister, Bent Brother, Zebra, Randy Jackson and eventually headlined some pop punk festivals in New York and New Jeresy. The second cd has everything fans of Bent Pussycat would expect, hard driving melodic rock pop punk tunes, lyrics filled with satire, sarcasm, humour, love and philosophy. The band released their first cd single and video in February 2004 and recieved huge success from every demographic. The band and record company was surprised by the vast amount of emails from the 12-16 year old genereation which normally shun bands not on MTV or within their immediate age range. The second video/single from Static was the song The Bakery Suite and it recieved huge priase and is a highly viewed video on myspace and youtube.
Bent Pussycat's sound is a result of the varied musical interests and experiences of each of the band members. Guitarist/Lead Vocalist Tom Cavanagh has recorded and toured with several successful independent bands and major label acts such as Rhino Caravan, Wardance and The Sons of Infinity. His guitar playing can be heard on well over 200 internationally released CDs and in several movies and commercials. He is a reknowned private music teacher with his own music school and has appeared on commercial radio station worldwide as well as MTV, VH-1, Much Music, CNBC and a variety of cable channels. He also performs with Almost Queen, The Crusher, PE5, Mean Blue Spirit, Christine Vaskas, Wonderous Stories, Garlic and quite often solo.
Guitarist/vocalist James Erickson fills out the huge guitar tone that the band has and is a vital part of the bands sound. His ability to layer guitar lines and chord embellishments behind Tom is a result of his extensive musical training and performance experience. Outside of Bent Pussycat James is a well known classical guitarist that tours internationally. He appears on many rock and classical CDs and is currently working on his newest solo album.
Drummer Gary Loock is a college buddy of Tom's. They played in the famed instrumental bands The Sons of Infinity and Opus Forte together. Gary is playing is a result of his studies and influences ranging from Buddy Rich to Terry Bozzio. He is an amazing musician with incredible technique but has the ability to play whats right for the song. Gary's timing is perfection. He is a breathing metronome and he really holds the back beat of the band together.
Bassist Sean Crusher was stolen from Tom's other band THE CRUSHER. Known for his guitar playing and singing in the other band, he breaks the precoception of his fans by being an incredible solid and melodi bassist. His backing vocals help fill out the Bent Pussycat sound and his wild stage antics and humour add a level of entertainment not found in todays performances. He has truly become a valuable member of the band since his recent addition.
Bent Pussycat has been the opening touring act for Twisted Sister, Bent Brother, Pretty Boy Floyd, Stryper, Zebra, Baptized BY Fire, Almost Queen, Sweet Spot, Wardance and has mainly headlined over the last two years.
Bent Pussycat has received rave reviews from magazines, radio D.J.s, club owners, critics and most importantly music enthusiasts from around the world and their peers hold them in the highest regards.
