The dynamic duo known as Blacdadi Strahberies represent the epitome of the modern, grassroots phenomenon. With musical influences ranging from the Parliament and Curtis Mayfield the geniuses of Prince and Billy Ocean, these guys bring much more to the game than your typical neo soul band.
“Blacdadi Strahberies is the bittersweet pain of every man, woman, and child, says CoolASRhalo. “The bitterness derives from the word “black”, a term that embodies a sense of struggle that we’ve all endured in life. The sweet aspect is like life or your daddy could be; a caring, yet strong backbone. The sweet represent the happiness after the bitterness.”
“Ironically, strawberries symbolize pain,” says CoolAsRhalo. “Like childhood strawberries that we got after scarring our knees on concrete. There’s nothing sweet about our strahberries.”
Blacdadi Strahberies transmit spiritual and funk energy, something like fresh air; like a spiritual revival.
“If you believe in a higher power, then there’s a blueprint you can follow to see that paradise and you can tap into it, says CoolAsRhalo. “That’s what makes us unique; we’ve tapped into it. We’re vessels.”
We represent a mass of people because we’re from Mississippi because it’s like a musical melting pot here. What makes our music distinct is that it involves no sampling, no carbon copying.”
Back in early 2000, the group was formed on the basis of seeking spiritual truth through music. After bumping into each other at different cultural events between Jackson and Canton, the two innovators decided to join forces and make something happen.
While fusing improvisatory keyboarding and freestyle spoken word, Blacdadi Strahbereis guarantees a unique spiritual and musical experience every time they hit the stage.
“When we walk away form the microphone, I hope we inspire people to keep pushing forward, find a positive outlet.
Our music is a soundtrack to our own lives, we don’t waste our opportunity to get on the mic. Anyone like Kanye, or John Legend, or Common speaks positively. Cause anyone can talk about rims or what material things they have. But if only one person can be inspired, then our work is done.”
