We enjoy all styles of what we call music. We abhor the radio and the pop music movement collectively as a group and strive to produce something opposing in sound and feel.

Bote is quite possibly the most unique band to hit Greenville SC and the upstate in quite some time. Derived purely from the acoustic heart of the Irish folk music of yore, yet combined with the rhythms and melodies of today, the result you find is really quite amazing. In the Celtic music genre, Bote is not a stand alone mountain. We are not here to change everything that has worked for countless centuries. We're here merely to make your ears dance and heart sing.
Bote is a group of unique individuals of varying pasts coming together to share a common purpose for their collective present and future. This is something that many can compare to the likes of Great Big Sea or the Dubliners in sound. It's not inventive, it's not original, but it is unique, and the blend of this small three piece folk band brings catchy neo-folk tunes straight from the heart of the ocean itself. With originals like "Bout with Fate," which is a soft acoustic recollection of the pain undergone when one battles the phenomenon called cancer. It's through the flowing melody and poetic lyrics that we communicate what it feels like to be plagued with something you can never see. "Our Destination" brings the sailing right to your ears, with a theme as timeless as the ocean itself. After countless months at sea, it's no secret that the sailors are longing for their wives and children upon their return. Try the happy and lilting "barnacles on the Hull" on for size. Possibly the most dangerous task is scraping hulls to remove the pesty barnacles underneath. Like the lyrics denote, you may just lose your knuckles in such a feat.
Bote is bringing the songs of old to a new frontier. Help us reach our destination as well. The shores of the south are riddled with folklore and Irish history. Join us in this attempt to grasp and hold tight the stories our ancestors held dear for many generations.
In light of his irish catholic heritage turned protestant, no better inspiration for names than St. Timothy, early saint of the church, and it seems as if that's something irish enough to merit a comment!
Growing up was hardly anything saintly however. Claimed to be a model student, Tim scored A's in just about everything from match to science, and consequently he continued to study Biology in college. His dreams and passions were elsewhere, and although he wasn't as modeled a singer as Bren was, he still enjoyed partaking on Sundays in the children's choir. Looking back, that may have been all the singing he did...but he was the first saxophone for years in junior high and high school and played piano efficiently for over 15 years before graduated from the ivories in college.
Tim's long winded typing is expressed in his musical inspirations as well. He's cynical to the core, and his pessimism is shared by Enter the Haggis and Oysterband, which both rank in his top three favourite bands of all time. Great Big Sea is his personal favourite in style, and hopes one day to be as recognized a musician as Sean McCann is. He draws experience from things like the sea, the political left and right, the church (and other religions), and news articles. He pretty much hates pop music, hip-hop and rap, and country. Anything on the radio has rarely hit his ears.
Originating from the Latin American land of Ecuador, Valeria upholds a name derived from the Latin term valere, meaning "to be strong."
As a child, Val sparked a passion for music and art. She sang with her elementary school's Glee Club for a couple of years. It was not until age 11 that she would first pick up a violin, and has been playing consistently ever since. She has also expressed her creativity in the form of visual art, earning a Gold Key in the Regional Scholastic Art Competition in 2002. She is currently an art major at UNC Charlotte as well as a member of their Youth Orchestra.
Val was reeled to the world of Celtic rock through the inspiration of Flogging Molly. She hopes to one day play an Irish jig as fast as Mark Nippert of Glorydive. She is drawn and inspired by ideas of freedom, breaking social norms, and following Christ.
Cap'n Nick is a 50 yr old picker with plenty of heart and experience. Huge set list, big variety of songs in several genre. Tourist crowd experience, 3 or 4 nights a week with both local and ever-changing crowd of tourists. His ability to remember lyrics and his ability to throw down a show almost anywhere, anytime makes him the ideal guitar choice for Bote. He has opened for Goose Creek Symphony with a crowd of 2,000 and has played from Maine to Mexico, Daytona to Laconia (biker events are a specialty); Jamaica, Puerto Vallarta, USS NASSAU (flagship for us fleet in first gulf war) and many campfires, cookouts, picnics, festivals, and for Clientel whose names i cannot reveal. He has played worship music in prisons around south Carolina.
