Balaraw
Balaraw formerly known as Balaraw ni Miguel was formed during the last quarter of 2003. Back then the main focus of the band was joining different band competitions with the belief that joining as many competitions as they can was a good venue for artists to learn and progress. True enough the band indeed progressed through winning some competitions and losing as well. The continuous participation of Balaraw ni Miguel in competitions gained popularity for the band among a small group of listeners. In 2006 Balaraw ni Miguel was able to record it’s first two demo songs, Haring Lawin and Sheena. Also in that year while still continuing to participate in different band competitions including the Global Battle of the Bands or GBOB, Balaraw ni Miguel was also able to play in great events such as Rakista’s RakRakan Series 3 and the UP fair 2006. In the same year Balaraw ni Miguel had it’s first radio exposure when the band was featured in NU 107’s In the Raw.
In early 2007 Balaraw ni Miguel had disbanded due to change of priorities among it’s members. Roel the band’s front man and bassist decided to continue what Balaraw ni Miguel had started. Roel started to search for new band mates. The name of the band was changed from Balaraw ni Miguel to Balaraw and consisted of Roel Robles on vocals, Alvin Chan on guitars, Javen Liam on Bass, and Rommel Robles on Drums. With the new formed band, Balaraw did not waste any time in getting back on track. In April 10, 2007 Balaraw had its first gig on Kolumn Bar, Timog. During the first quarter of the year Balaraw did a couple of gigs in different bars and events. In June of that year Alvin the bands guitarist has to go abroad temporarily, during the absence of Alvin the band decided to hire another guitarist to continue the streak of Balaraw. The band hired Roniel Santos as a new member. In July of the same year Balaraw’s drummer Rommel Robles have decided to leave the band permanently due to the pressure of his studies. Balaraw hired a new drummer, Jovic DeLeon. With the new line up, Balaraw continued to hone their skills as a band, wrote new songs, and kept on working hard on building a network contacts. Balaraw continued to progress. Things even got better when Alvin returned late November of 2007
Now Balaraw is much more aggressive than ever, pushing their boundaries and will stop at nothing to continue to evolve and progress as artists.
